"Reverend" Moon is in the hospital with pneumonia, and he may not survive.
Any guesses as to what will happen to the Moonies and their projects, especially the Washington Times?

Edit: Though some of them are in leadership positions in the "church".

(135,425 posts)They'll likely not have his 'clout,' such as it is. Who knows, the kids just may sell off the pieces, take the money, and run. I'd do that if I were one of 'em and had the choice to make!
The money paragraph at that link:
The church runs a multibillion-dollar empire that includes the Washington Times newspaper and the New Yorker hotel in Manhattan. Church officials say there are millions of members worldwide, but defectors and critics say the figure is no more than 100,000.

Moon has been feeble and in ill health for some time now, and there's been infighting among the various family factions the last few years.
Hard to tell exactly since they are so secretive, but the smell of all that money will drive them all insane...after all, it's all that was ever important to them to begin with.

(23,973 posts)It is rumored that their membership is in a decline that began after Hubbard croaked, and that rate of decline is increasing.
That's why they absolutely need to go after the high-earning, high-profile people in order to survive.
They have also run into some rather serious financial setbacks as of late, some failed business and real estate ventures.
They absolutely must either grow or die, it's their business model with no other fall-back plan.
As an aside, that is the real reason the RCC is against abortion, too.
No new members, no new sheep to fleece.

Their intelligence gathering organization at the ground level is the envy of the CIA.
