***Pics*** Sikh Solidarity, Boston MA 8-23-12

In response to the shootings in WI, the Sikh community asked for a show Solidarity from Boston. Several hundred to 1000+ showed up in response. People of every religion, every hue, every economic class responded. I have posted a few pics of the outpouring of support for the community.

I readily admit I know little of the Sikh religion, but I am learning. According to their literature and discussions by yours truly, they profess Peace, Understanding and avoid all barriers that have traditionally created animosity. There are no racial, religious, sex bias. From those I spoke to today, they are a warm and inviting portion of our population.

Sadly, it took a tragedy to bring people together when they should have been together all along.

I wish the the Sikh well on their spiritual journey.

Here is a sampling of what I went to this evening:

There was a great feeling of Solidarity among those who partook in this event.

I had several discussions with people and everyone was filled with empathy for
those that were taken from this plane in WI. There were no "boundaries" that
have traditionally separated people, everyone felt the repercussions of this
tragedy, the same feeling was apparent during the Boston show of Solidarity
after the Trayvon Martin shooting in FL.

What is ultimately disturbing, is that events of such a terrible nature seem to be
"required" before people come together in a common cause. There is probably some
study by Sociologists somewhere that can help explain this phenomenon, however, it
seems to me, we as a society should not have to wait for a tragedy to bring us
together.

I think we should look beyond our societal "norms" and if we were to take greater
steps in prevention of tragedies, we would be able to cope w/the ups and downs
much easier, I am also led to believe that the "downs" would lessen in number and
intensity.

Perhaps using Homeland Security money to deal with situations that are born here
at home as opposed to a constant flow of cash to federal, state and local law
enforcement agencies would do us a lot more good in the long run.

Just my 2 cents as I mull over what I was a part of yesterday.
