Swiss miffed by Romney girl
The Swiss authorities have hit back at a United States presidential election campaign video that portrays the country as a tax haven and lampoons Republican candidate Mitt Romney for his use of offshore bank accounts.
In the video released by supporters of the rival Democrat Party and incumbent Barack Obama, a character named Miss Swiss Bank Account describes Romney as a boss millionaire with accounts everywhere.
The film gives the impression that having a bank account in Switzerland is dubious in itself and its only aim is to hide money from the tax authorities, the Swiss foreign ministry said on Tuesday.
Switzerlands Washington embassy reportedly expressed its unhappiness at the clip to the Obama team, according to the Swiss News Agency.

They make it sound like this is an "I'm Barack Obama and I approved this ad" spot.

Maybe Switzerland wouldn't have that reputation if their lax laws didn't encourage just that.

with Swiss bank accounts.
And considering the response to the amnesty regarding bringing home money from foreign tax havens, it seems undeniable that some Americans had been using their Swiss accounts for tax-evasion.

(454 posts)4. did the Obama team actually put that ad out?
I seriously can't believe they would. That has to be a fan-made video.

Whatever.
If I were the Swiss I wouldn't waste the indignation.

That may not be the only reason that people not resident in Switzerland have Swiss bank accounts, but it's probably the primary reason.
And things like Swiss banks shielding Nazi gold deposits for over half a century don't exactly help enhance that reputation.

You want your money to meet a nice alp?

and I'll care when they're offended.
