Republican leadership makes startling statement to their grassroots.

You don't matter.

Even the Chairman of the Republican Party, Reince Priebus, has stated that the platform, that will be voted on by all the delegates at the Republican National Convention, means absolutely nothing to how Mitt Romney will govern. The majority will vote on a platform to be adopted as the principles and beliefs of the Republican Party and, in effect, it is meaningless.

This is a big story.

If the Democrats were to say something likewise at their convention, the voters would throw all of them out of office. They would not dare to tell the voters at the grassroots that they can vote on a platform but the leadership at the top will call all the shots. Just get on board and help us get rid of that evil Obama! That is all they ask.

The degree of deception is remarkable. It is unbelievable that there are so many people (Republicans) that would be fooled by a few "leaders" at the top who only give lip service to their most basic beliefs. But, that is what they are being told. And the denial will be equally remarkable.

is continue to tie them ALL with that extreme RW fascist platform that they adopted and make them argue against it, essentially throwing their bottom-feeding base under the bus.

For the Dems this took place under the guise of being pragmatic. The argument was something like this...ignore a politician's beliefs (as in ignore the candidates elitist DLC policy interests) and just get them elected, because until they are elected they can't meaningfully oppose politicians from the other party.

This logic assume that 'their' guy cannot be as good as 'our' worst guy.

This may seem so obvious to us but to Republicans it is mind-boggling, in my opinion. We have a duty to enlighten them. :tongue-in-cheek:

Don't think of it as futile, the little chips in their... "ahem"... logic appear over time, generations and . How many times can unchecked greed masked as archaic exceptionalism wreck even the most alcohol addled voter's whole world before it starts to soak in that their own choices destroy their own health/survival/happiness? OR... what their offspring observe: Think of your own parent's antiquated views, logical "in their time" simply doesn't match our current overpopulated situation? My own attempted to drive their own race-exceptionalism value system into siblings and I, none of us see any sense in it today.
Words resonate when the facts that reveal themselves are undeniable.

With one bit of contention, really not related to the overall point...

My parents antiquated views were those of Kennedy Dems, and is where my own basis of reality is rooted.I think,on my part, after a half century observing, some cynicism and skepticism,is warranted....

Just ask a lot of questions when they are on camera. E.g. your platform states that Jesus walked with the dinosaurs. Will that be your policy if you're elected? No answer will help them. They either believe the platform of the true believers or they are Judas.

Many erstwhile Republicans have given up on the party and are calling it GOPe or GOP-e for "GOP elite", precisely for the kind of reasons and actions hilighted by the original post.

Maybe the greedy, capitalist cannibalism of the Republican elite is better than the radical, right-wing ideology that is written into their platform by their activists? In either case, the people suffer greatly.
