Imagine getting almost a million write-in votes for President while in Prison

Eugene Debs got 913,664 votes— 3.4% of the popular vote —in 1920 from people writing in his name.

He was in prison at the time, convicted of sedition for speaking against the WWI draft in 1918.

He did not, of course, vote for himself. He wasn't allowed to vote.

It was the second highest vote total Debs ever got for President. He got 6% of the vote as the Socialist Party candidate in 1912.
