Box Office Report: Anti-Obama Doc Beats New Films With $6.3 Mil on Eve of GOP Convention

http://movies.yahoo.com/news/box-office-report-anti-obama-doc-beats-films-161221160.html

I can only believe that the majority attending this crap are the "true believers", that is the tea party bigots, or hard core republicans.

I cannot believe that independents and normal people would waste their time on this propaganda piece. If normal people are going to see a movie they are going to see The Bourne Legacy or something enjoyable.

and yahoo can go to hell for not having another view expose the lies to this piece of shit. They report it as though its a "documentary", therefore it must be factual.

I hope Google crushes their ass, and they go broke

Its total ticket sales to date are only 1,117,600 (source: Box Office Mojo). There are probably enough teabaggers willing to shell out for a ticket without needing to resort to that. Having said that, Fandango reported that a third of all its advance sales this weekend were for that film, which seems a tad suspicious.

"Paranorman" crushed it, for instance. http://boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/ .

If you look at gross sales for opening weekends over the last year, it comes in at #138, way behind a ton of movies I never even heard of. http://boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/past365.htm

I imagine that everyone willing to sit through that crap will have seen it now.

Actuals come out later today (Monday). Its per-theater is very high, though. It was in just over 1,000 theaters.

What kills me is watching Facebook beepbopboops dutily logging on after seeing and urging people to go. I'm fortunate that I've only got one MLM person on my Facebook friends, but coming from Alabama (and attending a Bible college back when I was a Christian), I've got tons of RWNJs hawking this crap. The first one I saw, I tried to talk down out of the tree. As soon as the preacher dude realized I could actually make a better case for Jesus being an anti-capitalist over Barack Obama, he deleted the entire post. Can't be leading the sheep astray!

ETA: Take a look at the daily charts:

http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2012-08-26&p=.htm

Its Saturday take barely improved over Friday, and it dropped on Sunday. All shows drop on Sunday, of course, but most get a nice bounce off of Friday's numbers on Saturday. That's what propelled Will Ferrell's "The Campaign" up over D'Souza's silliness for the weekend.

It may expand out into more theaters this next week, based on another sluggish weekend for new releases and that phat per-theater, but not many more, I don't think. It's down to the faithful queuing up to get a second glass of Wyler's Grape.

ETA: Well, the actuals are out, and 2016 hit $6.5 million. "Premium Rush" ended up doing just over $6 million, so it slipped to #8 and 2016 got the #7 slot.

I think it did 22 million. And then over a hundred million overall. Big yawn for this.

However, it's a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison, since F911 opened wide on its first week, while the others opened in a few screens and went wide later.

The sad thing is that because of the nation's size, there is enough of a market for anything that there are some who can grow quite rich indeed peddling nonsense like this.
