Nothing else, politically, is worth doing. The center doesn't exist and isn't worth appeasing.
What matters is boosting turnout and enthusiasm in November...that's ALL that matters.
Agreed?

..."the base" should spend less time distorting what the President says and giving him credit for knowing how to run a great campaign.
"What matters is boosting turnout and enthusiasm in November...that's ALL that matters."
We need everyone to vote, not just "the base." Every friggin body who can vote, should be encouraged to vote for Obama.
If we know it's that important, why is anyone trying to find issues where there are none?
AP Interview: Obama on Romney's 'extreme' views
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021199357
OMG! Obama said Romney is "extreme," this Congress is the "least productive" and there would be Republicans "willing to compromise" after the election.
OMG! OMG!
The reaction to the interview, which was highly critical of Romney and Republicans, is ridiculous.
Snatching a quote out of context to gin up outrage is simply because one wants to be outraged. Even out of context the quote isn't major deal. The President said he would be willing to compromise. The horror?
Who the hell actually believes there aren't going to be any compromises for the next four years...or in any Presidency?
Who the hell actually believes saying this is going to depress turnout?
Absurd! Absolutely ridiculous!

(50,254 posts)They've all become permanently irrational. Why pretend otherwise.
There will never be any more Mark Hatfields, Margaret Chase Smiths(or her successors as female Maine Republican senators) or Jacob Javitzes or even any more Howard Bakers or Everett Dirksens. That wing of the GOP is dead.
And as to compromise...you only announce your willingness to do that AT THE END of the process, not at the start...saying you'll compromise at the start means you'll end up getting nothing.

(116,464 posts)The President saying that he would be willing to compromise with Republicans who "would rather make deals than remain part of 'one of the least productive Congresses in American history'" is not something to be outraged about.
Searching the President's speeches for words to parse has become a sport for those who want to gin up outrage. It's a friggin innocuous comment in an interview largely criticizing Romney and Republicans.
Why not parse the fact that he called Romney "extreme" or that he called out Congress?
The President saying the word "compromise" is not a major issue of the day. Not even close.
Trying to create the impression that somehow using this word creates a crisis is silly.
"They've all become permanently irrational. Why pretend otherwise. "
Seriously, what the hell does that mean?
One would have to ignore the President's entire campaign, even the full interview, to believe that this statement, in or out of context, is a sign the President is trying to "pretend otherwise."
