Just so you know Chris Matthews would do the same thing to Democrats

Personally, I think Matthews favors whomever looks like winners which pretty much means he thinks the GOP looks like a bunch of losers. But during the Bush administration he seemed to favor the GOP up until about 2006 when the Dems were starting to look like they would take over DC.

I'm glad he called out that GOP guy about the racism in the birther comments that Romney seems to be embracing. But Chris Matthews will turn on a moments notice if the GOP starts looking like winners and dems start smelling like day old dirty socks.

And I expect that next week, he'll be telling Axelrod and Plouffe how the campaign should be run.... but we shall see.

he can be very erratic and infuriating at times, but I think he clearly leans to the left, and more importantly has his own convictions that he truly believes in. In other words, he will not go where the wind blows. Sure, he will whore a bit, every now and then, almost everybody in the media does it. But he is OK in my book, even if, as mentioned earlier, he sometimes put the integrity of my TV in jeopardy.

Poke him, and he will revert to his roots in the golden years of the Kennedys and O'Neill, etc. He will generally stand up for issues of social justice.

5. ordinarily I'd agree with you. But I've seen a different Chris Matthews the last few months

He actually seems informed and outraged about some of the things the Repubs have done, and he dropped the equivalency (both sides do it) crap that everybody else on NBC is into. He doesn't seem as scripted, it's like he's really seeing reality for the first time, and it's not the America he remembers. I'm proud of him and his recent determination to call these people on their BS.

He cannot be overtly pro-any party but he's a lefty from way back. There was talk a while back that he was going to run for office in PA and he spent his early days working on the hill and in various political capacities and he's always been to the left of center. Not that he's easy on Dems- he can be critical of everyone regardless of party. Usually he's a bit annoying for me personally because he talks over people so much which makes it difficult for people to get their point across. But today I was very proud to see him doing his thing.

He will still call Dems on things that strike him as hinky (sometimes rightly and sometimes wrongly), but I have noticed the over all tone of his comments heading left since '08.

Remember post election 2000 and the fake charges that the Dems tried to not count military votes. He sided with traitor boy Lieberman on that one.

reporting the truth - not the spin.

The problem I have with Matthews is he reports on the spin more than the truth. As does the majority of cable news hosts.

Today he did his job.

If Democrats ever did the same kind of race-baiting, xenophobic, appealing-to-lowest-common-denominator crap that the Republicans do, then they should be called out on it.

I don't think it would matter.

He has shown weaknesses for certain repubs like Tom Delay and all that at times. He's made a few comments that were infuriating, but I do think overall he's done a decent job.

Don't forget, though, he has made repubs tow the line. Remember when he laid into Michelle Malkin over some comments about John Kerry? That's a classic.
