There must be something to criticize Obama about, but what the Republicans have settled on is welfare (a flat lie) and medicare (an intricate but easily debunked lie) and Muslim non-American (downright comical lie).
This approach W-O-R-K-S.
Lies actually make for better attacks because they cannot not be argued against. They are not arguments, they are simply lies.
All you can say is, "That is not true." And since it is, in fact, not true that is supposed to dispose of the issue. If, however it does not dispose of the issue then you are out of bullets.
There is nowhere to go from, "That is not true."
And it irritates people, hearing over and over, "That is not true." It's so negative. "He's such a whiner! No matter what his opponent says his response was, That never happened, or That's a Lie, or You just made that up."
If your opponent says you murdered Jon Benet Ramsey what have you got in response? That he is lying. So now it is "he said, he said." But being a child murderer is way worse than being a liar.
The Big Lie works. Hitler and Goebbels described it... classified it... but they didn't invent it. The effect is too written into human nature to have been a 20th century innovation.
They can offer 22 bullet points about why it was wrong for Obama to eliminate the work requirement in welfare. We only have one bullet point. "That never happened." And people are so uncritical in their thinking that 22 bullet points outweighs one measly bullet point.

(24,771 posts)OK, back the the subject of bigger lies :
"Paul Ryan wants to be able to kidnap and rape the babies born to rapist 'fathers' because raping the mother isn't sadistic enough. We have to punish the 'gift from God' that came from this 'means of conception.'"
"I know why Rmoney isn't releasing his tax returns. I've been told he's been involved with the Mexican drug cartels and is laundering millions of dollars in drug money through his Mormon connections. He's also been financing al-Qaeda's next terrorist attack on American soil."

(10,960 posts)It's like aetheism... everyone is an atheist about the overwhelming majority of gods. It's just a matter of whether one is willing to take the process to its conclusion.
A lot of people say that "they" are lying to you... and they probably are! But it doesn't follow that the speaker isn't.
