Christie going on and on about himself . . . I turned it off before he even said Romney's name. He did eventually say the man's name . . . .didn't he?
What we need to feature at our political gathering are folks who are not politicians. Fortunately we have folks like Sandra Fluke, Lilly Ledbetter, and others whose efforts and challenges President Obama has highlighted throughout his term. I expect we'll see them featured in some way.
But this godawful republican show . . . and Ann Romney. Very nice, pleasant talk, but you just had to be screaming over her when she made such a big deal highlighting folks in difficulties who her husband's party hasn't bothered to lift a finger to help; like the first responders she mentioned early on.
I know this convention isn't supposed to be riveting or the least bit entertaining or informative, but, you just had to shake your head with wonder when Mrs. Romney told the crowd gathered how excited she was about the things coming up that they were going to do during the rest of their convention. I can't imagine what's next . . . elephant tricks? We've already had the clowns.

(86,005 posts). . . and I think we have a sharp team running this campaign. That energy and intelligence should be reflected in our convention.
Must really suck to be republican.

(15,445 posts)All the Dems need to do in Charlotte is highlight the natural diversity within the Democratic Party.
Emphasize the multi-hued, multi-cultural inclusiveness of the Dem Party.
Contrast that with the zenophobic and monochromatic Repub Party on display in Tampa.
It's a no-brainer...

(86,005 posts)Their strategy that seems to have been collectively agreed on has them posturing as saviors and rescuers of economically distressed folks out here, and, at the VERY same time, with a religious fervor, whipping up as much anti-government sentiment as they're able. It's the most cynical display of politicking that exists today, this new-republicanism; these faux revolutionaries.
Knowing full well that their game is to ultimately reward their wealthy donors -- Romney's tax proposal is the most detailed piece of his economic plan and highlights his victory payoff to the millionaires and billionaires, at the expense of the 99% of us -- these republican politicians that are featured at their convention are doing little else but playing their audience for rubes.
I look forward to something more enlightening and accessible next week. For now, it's a wait and wonder to see if this raw and extremely presumptive hubris from the RNC is as palatable to the voting public as their entire party looks to believe.

(25,415 posts)Really lackluster and dull. But that is fitting as that is Mitten's personality. There is no way the DNC will be boring because the Dems have much better speakers and some real non-politicians who will be featured.
