(154,021 posts)It looks like pretty normal activity actually.
(And my quake detectors have calmed down)
I got a pretty good app on the IPAD that is just lovely for some of this crap.

(75,480 posts)then we will domino effect and all.

(154,021 posts)and anyway the cluster was OFF any spurs.
You could have a 9.0 in front of Seattle, at the Buenafuca plate (they are actually overdo), and you will not have any effects anywhere else in the Ring of Fire, at least not directly. If we did, after the Chile killer quake, we should have had a series of quakes up and down and we really did not.
You can have an 8.3 in San Fran. (Some think they are overdue), again, that will not trigger quakes in So Cal.
There is really no domino effect except for the local area of the fault. Whittier goes, you could have a few quakes in near spurs. But that is about it.
Quakes release pressure in the local area of the fault. They may overload other sections, but likely those sections will not go for decades, if not hundreds of years.
The reality though is that we could have a major quake in Norcal with another one in SoCal and they would not be related at all. Yes, even on the San Andreas.

(75,480 posts)However, I always have an eye open when it comes to earthquake vigilance. We had a really small one in Atascadero, which is close by today. We'll see if it triggers off other ones.

(75,480 posts)When I lived in LA, I even quit a job that was on top of a high rise, back when we were having a bout of quakes on a daily basis.
