http://factcheck.org/2012/08/ryans-vp-spin/TAMPA, Fla. Paul Ryans acceptance speech at the Republican convention contained several false claims and misleading statements. Delegates cheered as the vice presidential nominee:
- Accused President Obamas health care law of funneling money away from Medicare at the expense of the elderly. In fact, Medicares chief actuary says the law substantially improves the systems finances, and Ryan himself has embraced the same savings.
- Accused Obama of doing exactly nothing about recommendations of a bipartisan deficit commission which Ryan himself helped scuttle.
- Claimed the American people were cut out of stimulus spending. Actually, more than a quarter of all stimulus dollars went for tax relief for workers.
- Faulted Obama for failing to deliver a 2008 campaign promise to keep a Wisconsin plant open. It closed less than a month before Obama took office.
- Blamed Obama for the loss of a AAA credit rating for the U.S. Actually, Standard & Poors blamed the downgrade on the uncompromising stands of both Republicans and Democrats.
And when he wasnt attacking Obama, Ryan was puffing up the record of his running mate, Mitt Romney, on taxes and unemployment.
Taking Money from Medicare?
Ryan continued the campaigns false line of attack that Obama had funneled money out of Medicare to pay for the federal health care law at the expense of the elderly. But thats contradicted by Medicares chief actuary, in a statement at the end of the most recent report of the systems trustees (our emphasis added):

As far as I've been able to tell by checking both Google News and Twitter tonight, Ryan's speech is getting as much attention for its inaccuracies as for its appeal to the GOP base.

(13,807 posts)It seem that is all Ryan and Romney can do! Blame Obama for everything that the Bush's administration did to put us is this horrific economy mess. No, it is not perfect, but is a lot better than it was and better than it would be under their plans. The republicans have a problem with the truth and spew out words that have no meaning. I am a middle of the road person, but I can see if I drift to the right, I will not like it. I can not fathom the thought of letting these 2 men and their cronies get control again.

(43,242 posts)may well be how unqualified Ryan is to be President.
He's not much more than Sarah Palin without the shrill whinies
and with piles and piles of lies.
You can make numbers be anything you want them to be
and that is Ryan's forte.
It's am implicit issue at this point, but I think the public will come
around and hopefully the Obama campaign will exploit it as well.

(582 posts)What truly scares me is that the true blue Republicans don't see the inconsistencies and are eating Ryan's rhetoric up. Is that much of the nation delusional and full of hate?
