You know why the media is saying Romney/Ryan is dishonest?

Because it doesn't matter. It is not Decisive. It is F'ing trivial.

Standards have changed so much that saying someone is lying is meaningless, so now the media can say it.

If it was election-moving stuff they wouldn't feel free to say it.

The Obama campaign today said Ryan was "Lying." Woooo-hoo. That might have been an appropriate breakthrough in 2000... if Al Gore had said it himself... to Bush's face.

In 2012 it means nothing. Information technology data glut has coarsened and desensitized us to the point where that kind of "tough talk" is a lullaby.

The lying issue should matter a great deal, but we need tough concept, not tough talk.

Because Mitt Romney lies all the time and orders other people to lie all the time we know something important about him. We know that he is a compulsive liar. He lacks some vital moral foundation... some essential part of being a human being. There is something wrong with him.

A person who lies constantly about everything, about his family, his money, his professional life, his political career, the economy, foreign policy, the president of the United States, what his own name is... that person is defective.

We can either go there, or we can just drop the whole complaining about lying thing and start running false ads claiming Romney has a secret plan to make Mormonism the official religion of the US. If we are going to set a value to truth then it is not enough to say somebody is lying. We have to spend political capital and credibility to put forward what that means... why it is morally unacceptable.

The public is too cynical to fill in the blanks.

If the President were telling whoppers like Romney and Ryan, lots of us would be freaking out about it. Only the conservatives are living in a post-factual world.

I, and many other Dems, wouldn't tolerate this sort of lying from Obama so were are at a tactical disadvantage.

That has to be turned around. Since we don't have the option of pathological lying we have to be willing to state what we do believe.

People who lie all the time are simply not morally qualified to hold high office.

We believe it. That's why we wouldn't tolerate this kind of lying from our leaders.

So we have to say it, in a way that mandates a national conversation about whether being a compulsive liar is now okay.
