Political articles/pictures/opinion have made up about 90% of my activity on Facebook for a long time now. I don't get very many "likes" or "shares" or even comments; if not seeing instantly gratifying results were a deterrent, I would have gone back to "look what my baby/cat/dog did/said/ate" a long time ago...
...but I just kept doing it.
First there was the friend who PM'd me a year ago to tell me that she had moved her money out of BofA to a credit union thanks to me.
Then came the trickle of likes and shares from a tiny group of friends, which has slowly grown to a not-so tiny group.
Finally, in the last month or two, a week doesn't go by without at least one of my "I don't 'do' politics" friends prefacing a political post with "I don't usually post political stuff on Facebook, BUT..."
Yeah, I'm going to take at least partial credit for this.

(9,681 posts)5 people tell me they go to my page for news updates they can't get on the msm and cartoons (thanks DU). Just yesterday I had one plead with me to not ever "unfriend" her because she gets all her best stuff from me. I did have one unfriend me because he couldn't handle the truth. He was a paul-bot.
We need to just keep plugging away, we might change a mind or two.

(2,431 posts)Keep reccing! I know there is a large contingent of DUers who are "above" reaching out on Facebook, but it is undeniably the largest social media network on the planet and my anecdote in the OP is my real experience.
It's not an instant ego-lifter, but being consistent and methodical does have long-term effects.

(5,912 posts)He said he was watching my back and forth political discussions/ brew has with my brother and he told me to keep giving him hell. He said he loves all the stuff I post. He's in the Air Force and he's about to be shipped back to Afghanistan for his second tour. I figure, my brother may not agree with me, but because I seem to have caught my nephew's voice and I'm doing it for him and for others who may not have made up their minds yet.

(12,471 posts)Then make up a bit more of mine, but then again I am in what I have heard is the "Liberal Capital of the World."
Living in what I like to call, "The Poorman's Woodstock," of Rosendale, NY, we are quite liberal minded people. The thing is that even the conservative among us have a "Live and let live," attitude.
Yeah, my local friends haven't been dissing me about all my political posts, and I only see about 2-3 likes to a post, but I know that it must be sinking in when some of those likes come from someone who I thought was solidly on "the other side."
Keep it up. It will eventually sink in.

(4,558 posts)I believe I have friends who might feel the way I do, and I hope that my boldness has given some of them the courage to go against the grain of local politics and post their true feelings.
I've seen some people start to post more progressive stuff. Don't know if I get any credit for that, but I'll keep doing what I do.
People are afraid to be the first to buck popular ideas. Break the ice for them.

(4,835 posts)I don't start a lot of 'threads' on Facebook. What I do is respond to right-wing shit (one 'friend' posts articles from theblaze).
I find that pointing out the fact that theblaze is just another wall in the echo chamber owned by Bain Capital shuts him up for a couple of days.
It is my hope that standing up to the right-wing bullies will help other people see that they are full of shit.
I think the tug of war on Facebook is more influential than the ads on TV. It is our only opportunity to respond to the deceptive ads.
