(34,141 posts)Republicans have become libertarians. They do not want government to work so when they are in power, they try to ensure that it will not work whether they are in control or someone else is. Just look back to Republican obstructionism while President Obama was in office!

(8,944 posts)are a big corporation or a wealthy person. Just if you are in the other 99% and lost your income because of Covid19. Then it's so small you can't find it. It disappeared.

(11,764 posts)They say it but the size of government is irrelevant to them. The function of government is important. They want government large enough to enforce American Hegemony abroad and social and economic policies domestically. They have no problem growing the military as large as it needs to be. They have no problem growing police forces. They have no problem with spy programs and growing programs to regulate the behaviors of people they find "unacceptable".
Republican government doesn't work because their policies favor the wealthy and try to impose a hierarchy that does not promote free and equitable society. They use fear, anger, and resentment to motivate people to support their policies.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
