A few weeks back I posted a couple threads about WellsFargo foreclosing on my friend Cindi who is battling a recurrence of stage four breast cancer. There's a good chance she might not make it this time.
Edit to add: here's a link to the backstory: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021214740
On top of that, worse came to the worst:
She and her husband Kirk are faced with a choice: either pay for the only effective drug out of pocket because their insurance company refuses to pay for it or make full mortgage payments. Before making that choice, they approached WellsFargo many times to work out a plan. They went through the same horrible story: the paperwork was lost, they had to start over, there was someone new on the case who didn't know the situation, ad nauseam.
Here's a link to the video I posted before: http://www.wcnc.com/video/featured-videos/Wells-Fargo-to-cancer-patient-Weve-reached-out-to-nonprofits-167507775.html
A week ago, the sheriff showed up on the doorstep with papers.
I was really surprised that both threads sank like a stone on DU. I'm going to try one more time to see if I can stir any human feeling at all.
Hey ya'll! Just wanted to pop in and let ya know that I'm still here and kicking. Things have been really wild crazy around here lately. There have been 2 follow up stories on the news about WellsFargo refusing to do a work out plan with us. I was contacted by someone from the White House (yeah that White House) about an angry email I sent in regards to the government bailing out the banks but this one not helping to bail me out. The Dept of the Treasuray is now investigation Wells! Our story has been picked up by ABC News and we are suppose to be on the Dr.Drew show on Monday to talk about what is going on! PHEW! Oh, and someone donated $10,000.00 to the trust a friend set up!!! Here's a link to the blog.spot another friend set up that has all the links to the craziness!
I've known Cindi and Kirk for over ten years. These are good, honest, hardworking people. Kirk is a former marine who works an extended shift to try to keep up, then rushes home to care for Cindi. They're both exhausted from trying to survive. It hurts so much to see them struggling so much and not being able even to hang on.
If you'd like to help, if you can chip in at all, here's where you can go: http://hopeforcindi.blogspot.com/
Please, DU, don't let us down a third time.

Second edit:
OneGrassRoot - you are freakin' AWESOME!!
Fourth Edit to say ONLY 16 MORE SIGNATURES NEEDED. DU -- you are awesome as well. Please keep your FB threads kicked and Cindi's page re-shared. I'm awaiting a return call from my congressman's office, just holding my place in line. They're good to their word and will get to me the moment they can (I'm a big fan of Brad Miller). Let's get those last 16 signatures! THANK YOU DU!!!
Here is a link to a Change.Org petition to sign. Please do sign and pass it on. If you would be so kind as to repost it in your FB feed, it would mean a lot.
Thank you DU. Thank you, thank you, and again, thank you.

Third edit:
I found the link to Cindi's FB page

(3,310 posts)The whole situation has been a nightmare all along.
The last time I saw Cindi in person a couple of years ago, she was fit and healthy. She had her beloved service dog Spook with her when she and Kirk came up for HillbillyBob's and my commitment ceremony. (They only live a couple of hours from us.) Right after that, Spook crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Only days after that, in the midst of her grief, she found a lump in one of her breasts.
Since then, it has been surgery, chemo, juggling bills, grinding fatigue, and unending stress. Through it all, WellsFargo has refused to return phone calls, switched contacts on her when they have spoken with her, repeatedly lost paperwork and made her and Kirk start over numerous times... the whole familiar nightmare.
All of her friends are at wits' end trying to help. Pretty-much all I can do is to try and spread the word. Maybe someone who's far wiser than I will say, "I have an idea. Let's try this..."
Anything is worth a shot to give some dignity to a terminally-ill woman and her husband.

I can't thank DU enough. Everyone is pitching in to keep this thread kicked. I hope that eventually someone who can move a mountain will see us "shouting".
Look at the number of FB "likes". People are tweeting. Cindi, Kirk, and I are very, very thankful for everyone's efforts in getting their story out.
Thank you.
Thank you all.

(3,310 posts)I found her PM thanks to your suggestions and sent a note with links.
Right now my eyes are getting a little wet with gratitude for all the kicks.
I sent Cindi a quick email of encouragement. We're trying.
The only other thing I can add is "damn Wells Fargo". They've had scores of opportunities to do the right thing. They've even refused to respond to the media. It just sounds like one big "f*ck you all" after another.
The inquiry from the Treasury Dept will likely go nowhere, but hey, at least WF knows we're watching.

(22,772 posts)Perhaps Wells Fargo customers can write to them and inquire about her and her situation? Unfortunately, this could happen to anyone and if they will do this to her, they'll do this to anyone and this should send a chill to every Wells Fargo customer.
Hang in there!

(62,683 posts)the WH and DOT! That's promising, although it's appalling that Cindi is having to spend her last days living this additional hell. Please keep posting, and let Cindi and Kirk know that their friends on DU care and will do what we can.
HillWilliam
(3,310 posts)Every word of encouragement means a lot to them right now. Cindi's a fighter. She's not going to fold up and accept defeat meekly either from cancer or WF. It has help her and Kirk immensely to know there are people in their corner.
Cindi was a school counselor for years. She gave of her heart to some really hard-core, troubled kids. When she was able, she made a difference in this world, put a lot of good in it. Kirk is a gentle giant who dotes on her, doing everything he can to get her through the pain and fatigue. Two kinder people I doubt I've ever met. When Amendment One (the anti-gay amendment) went on the ballot on in NC, they took the time to write letters and call their Assemblycritters out of love for HillbillyBob and me, never mind they had much bigger fish to fry.
That's the kind of folks they are. They don't deserve the hell that's been put on them. If there's anything at all I can do help them, I'll do it.

(7,755 posts)the worst. My cousin died and they started repossession paperwork within a week even through I had contacted them almost immediately and there was plenty of money in his accounts to make all necessary payments. It was, as in your friends case, a matter of stalling and lost paperwork, etc. If I hadn't known a local Wells Fargo bank officer personally, it would have been a real nightmare.
Kick.

(3,310 posts)WF took over Wachovia where there original mortgage was. Until Cindi got sick again they were current.
It's a shitty think about American "healthcare" (if we can call it that). If you're very rich you can have it or you can just die off. We have the best technology in the world. Walking around folks simply don't have access to it.
Here we have a case where there is technology to beat Cindi's cancer. The insurance company refuses to pay for it because "it's experimental" -- even though the drug has proven effective. It's also hideously expensive.
So faced with tough choices no matter which way they go, no matter which way they go they're gonna get screwed up the ass without even so much as dinner or a kiss.
WinstonSmith4740
(3,059 posts)Terminally ill husband, Wells Fargo as my mortgage holder. I tried being pro-active, was met with a brick fucking wall, and as a result, got two months back and it took me over a year to dig out from underneath. The people on the phone were nice enough, but the corporate-critters were assholes.
I hope things work out for your friends, and I'm SO glad that WF is being investigated. And her damned insurance company should be held up as to WHY we still need the public option. I hope ABC News identifies them in their story.
My best wishes and hopes to your friends. And I'm sure you've read it, but there was an article here at DU about how herb not only helps with the chemo effects (something I can attest to), it may help in keeping the cancer from spreading. It may be tough for an ex-Marine to get his head around, but right now, it's all about her.
A BIG-TIME k&r
HillWilliam
(3,310 posts)is the only thing keeping chemo tolerable and pain to a minimum. We're pushing for decriminalization.
Herb was the only thing that allowed my dad to eat anything at all when he was going through cancer. Cancer finally got him, but it took years; years I finally got to know him and become friends with him. I wouldn't trade that for anything.
And ex-marines are way-cooler than most folks realize. A lot of my closest friends are Marines -- and staunch Dems besides

(7,887 posts)She put in a lot of work into the house. Increased it's value, but spent a lot of her savings on it, then the housing market sank and she got stuck with a great home in a screwed up market.
Wells and the rest just didn't want to eat the difference, have been putting that out on the consumers the whole time even though they got the money to fix these kind of problems, it's always something.
Glad Cindi and Kirk got some high level help.
HillWilliam
(3,310 posts)if we keep pushing, "notice" from the White House and Treasury Department might turn into "help". I'm counting on DU to help push. We've made a difference before. I know we can do it again.

We have numbers here. OneGrassRoot got a Change.Org petition started. There's a FB page for Cindi set up.
If this thread stays kicked long enough, then enough people will eventually "like" her page and find the Change petition.

I just finished my fight with stage 3 colon cancer, and I know how hard the financial aspects can be. I'm at least lucky I live in Canada and don't have to pay for treatment. That said, I have an ostomy because of my cancer and the gov doesn't cover it all nor does it cover the cost of some of the drugs I needed. I was going to school to during my treatment and am continuing now, so I'm not rolling in any dough...can barely move some days, let alone work and go to school. Im only 33 so it's not like I even had a nest egg of some sort...sigh.
We cancer kiddies gotta stick together though, and I will send your friend all the good feelings I can. And if I win the lottery, the house is hers

(3,310 posts)one of which helped me last year when I was unemployed. NC has a great foreclosure prevention program, but by the time WF had screwed around and "lost" the paperwork the umpteenth time, the mortgage was too far gone.
It's been a horror story all the way around. Cindi has been too sick to chase down a lot of the paperwork and Kirk has been too preoccupied. That's where the banksters get you, sigh. By the time I found out, they were pretty deep in the mud.
I've offered them a place to live at my house, if the very worse comes to the very worst. I'll be goddam if I'll let them live in their truck. It would be tight and there would be some adjustments, but Rob and I would make do.

(3,310 posts)Breast cancer scares me. It is a bitter enemy that has stolen so much from right next to me.
It doesn't run in my family. It strolls through calmly, getting to know each one of its victims intimately and personally. It is a thief that steals lives, disfigures bodies, takes self-esteem and vitality away. It soaks time and energy away from people who stress themselves to a frazzle trying to care for those stricken with this vicious killer.
Now it's attacking a friend a second time, one who stood by me when I nearly lost my own love. She can't get help from her insurance company, from the drug manufacturer who makes the last-resort treatment, and on top of that, Wells Fargo wants to turn her out in the goddam street.
I'm angry. I'm so mad I'm crying at work. Again.
Other than getting people to sign petitions to lean on WF or to make phone calls (I did call my US Rep), or to hang out a page on WishaDoo, there isn't a helluvalot else I can do.
