It’s an article of faith on the right that Mitt Romney may be destroying Paul Ryan’s national career

Great article: How Ryan hurts Romney -- While the right thinks the V.P. nominee is the star of the ticket, he's hurting his running mate in swing states By Joan Walsh:

It’s an article of faith on the right that Mitt Romney may be destroying Paul Ryan’s national career, by muzzling him and keeping his far-right stands on Medicare, Social Security, federal spending and abortion secret from voters. Iowa GOP party chairman Craig Robinson shared his colorful appraisal with the New York Times Tuesday, “I hate to say this, but if Ryan wants to run for national office again, he’ll probably have to wash the stench of Romney off of him.”

...

But it’s just as likely that Ryan is bringing down Romney’s presidential chances, too. In three key swing states, Ohio, Virginia and Florida, a new poll finds that voters overwhelmingly oppose Ryan’s plan to voucherize Medicare, and instead favor President Obama’s approach to the program and trust him to protect it. And the Catholic Wisconsin resident isn’t helping with Catholics or folks from Wisconsin – Obama’s taken a lead with both groups.

But it’s in older swing states that Ryan may be hurting, not merely not helping, Romney. A Washington Post/Kaiser Family Foundation poll found that Obama has a 17-point edge over Romney with all voters on who will best handle Medicare, his biggest advantage all year. Ohio voters favor Obama’s approach to Medicare by 19 points, Florida by 15 and Virginia by 13. Voters who call Medicare “extremely important” back Obama 59 percent to 36 percent, while those who say it’s less important favor Romney, 54 percent to 36 percent. (An earlier New York Times poll found similar results in Wisconsin.)

Neither will Ryan, even if he's turned out. Brace yourself for scary sound bits from him for the next fours years. Bank on it.

So, no - I don't think anyone will be talking about Ryan after the election - except perhaps the folks over at FoxNews every now and again.

1) This should be seen as a thorough repudiation of the Ryan budget and the philosophies it represents. Whenever the teabaggers try to bring any of that up, Obama should take the position, "The American people already spoken on that. None of that is up for discussion in any form. Elections have consequences."

2) Hopefully even if he isn't completely gone from the scene, hopefully this is the last we have to hear about his excellent P90X workouts.

Did I mention he's very good looking?

As soon as the national press dug any farther into who he is and what he stands for than "he's the Republican budget guy" he was going to be up shit creek.

political offices the fact that he idealizes Ayn Rand is bad enough but while your running with someone as their VP you shouldn't be making smart comments about them in private. Neither one of these lowlifes would be good for this Country.

The general populace has no stomach for the garbage ryan is selling and thanks to Romney his positions have been brought out for all to see. Even if they arent getting all of it they are getting enough to realize they dont want his kind of crazy running the show.

Ryan was only known by political junkies. Now everyone sees him and wonders how he ever got elected in the first place.

He did not have to take the positions he took to put himself in the spotlight, and he did not have to say yes when asked by Romney to run. I do believe that many Republicans assumed if Ryan were on the ticket, it would propel Mitt into the White House. How little did they know the wholesale rejection of Ryan and his ultra-right wing policies by this country would probably put Mitt himself into retirement. Not that he Mitt was doing okay on his own in this regard, but the Ryan selection cemented Mitt's fate.
