88% of Mitt Romney's 'charitable donations' go to the Mormon Church.

I did a little analysis based on two pretty reliable sources:

"In 2010, for example, a year in which he made $22 million, Romney gave away $3 million. A startling $1.5 million of this, in the form of a direct cash donation, went to the Church Of The Latter Day Saints... The rest, a stock donation, went to "The Tyler Foundation. What's the Tyler Foundation?...A sharp-eyed reader did some digging and discovered that Romney has a private charity called "The Tyler Foundation" that has been the recipient of millions of dollars of gifts from Romney over the years and now has more than $10 million in total assets."- Henry Blodget

OK, so we know 50% of Romney's donations go directly to the Mormon Church, and 50% go to his "family foundation," aka the Tyler Foundation. So who does the Tyler Foundation give its money to???

&quot From 1999-2010), the foundation, called the Tyler Charitable Foundation, made grants of $7-million, most of it going to the Mormon Church, otherwise known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Grants totaling $4.7-million were made to the church, with the largest grants in 2008 ($1.8-million) and 2003 ($1.9-million). The foundation awarded $525,000 to Brigham Young University, the Mormon university that is Mr. Romney’s alma mater."

So the Tyler Charitable Foundation gave $4.7 million + $525 thousand out of $7 million to the Mormon Church and its flagship Mormon university, or about 75% of its donations over an 11 year period. Assuming this rate continues, this means that 75% of Mitt's donations to this charity will end up in the hands of the Mormon Church.

So, when you total it all up, the 50% that goes directly to the Mormon Church, then the 75% of the 50% he gives to Tyler that also ends up going to the Mormon Church, it turns out that roughly 88% of Mitt's "charitable donations" actually end up in the hands of the Mormon Church.

Amazing.

Mormons are required to give 10% of their income to the church in order to remain in good standing and be eligible to participate in temple ceremonies. Most don't, but someone with his money is probably expected to contribute a large sum.

Amazing that he allowed even $1 of his "charitable contributions" to go anywhere besides the mormon church.

5. Giving money to the Mormon church, is giving money to big business.....

...and it is a requirement, to be able to go do the bullshit rituals in the temple, which will get you right into the Celestial Kingdom....where you will dwell eternally with your family forever...oh..and become a God yourself...and make spirit babies with however many spiritual wives you're worthy of. With all that tithing, Mitt should be a shoe in. And yes..most of them do give their 10% ...money for eternity... Gotta pay to play...

9. Donations to churches are not necessarily charitable donations and should not be tax writeoffs,

especially donations to churches with corporate holdings.

The Mormon Religious Industrial Complex is a wealthy business conglomerate and any donations this conglomerate should not be considered charitable donations.

A religious organization that has any type of private profit making process should not be considered a charity.

...isn't it traditional to try to give 10% of one's gross income to the charity or charities of one's choice?

So, if Romney gave $4 million to charity, shouldn't his taxable income have been $40 million instead of the $13.7 million he claimed on his 2011 Federal Tax Return?

And if he paid 14.1% in income taxes, shouldn't he have really paid $5.6 million instead of the $1.9 million claimed on his return?

Just stirrin".

However, many would say that the 10% is supposed to go to your church, rather than some other charity.
