Top Romney official on Mitt: A 'lousy candidate'

Top Romney official on Mitt: A 'lousy candidate'

by Jed Lewison

From Politico, the new spin from Romneyland: Mitt's losing because he sucks at this.

“Lousy candidate; highly qualified to be president,” said a top Romney official. “The candidate suit fits him unnaturally. He is naturally an executive.”

If this is a strategy to get people to see Mitt Romney as competent, though unlikable, it's the worst strategy imaginable. If Mitt Romney isn't competent to be a candidate—which is as much about creating a strong organization as it is about being able to relate to people—then it's pretty damn hard to argue that he'd be competent as president. As hard as it is to run for the presidency, it's even harder to be president.

On the other hand, if this is a strategy to dump all the blame for 2012 on Mitt Romney in order to shield his staffers and his party, well, then this is just like 2008:

Ten days before the 2008 presidential election, as blame was beginning to be laid out for John McCain’s “likely defeat,” a top communications adviser to the campaign wrote a detailed strategy memo focused on how to preserve the reputation of another key adviser, Steve Schmidt, POLITICO has learned.

That sounds a lot like what's going on now, but the big difference is that when that memo was written, there were just ten days left in the campaign. We're still in September, and the knives have been out for at least a couple of weeks now. And we've still got more than 5 weeks to go. In other words, grab your popcorn. The show is going to be great.

Ouch! Mitt's "campaign is filled with people who spend their time avoiding him or resisting him"

That quote from the top campaign insider is off the mark. Any asshole can be an "executive." You have to have a reasonable amount of smarts and judgment and be accountable/responsible for your decisions.

But President? It's much more than being the "Chief Executive" of the nation. It's also being "Commander in Chief"--something rMoney doesn't even want to THINK about--never mind mention in his nomination acceptance speech.

It's about "feeling our pain" (to quote Big Dawg). RMoney hasn't felt ANY pain, EVER, in his soft, fatty, pampered and privileged life. He's completely unable to relate to an average American. He doesn't understand what it is like to live within a budget, to have to forgo needed purchases, medical care, a trip to the dentist owing to lack of money. He doesn't understand how a car breakdown can fuck up a family to the point of foreclosure. He just Does. Not. Get. It.

And if he does not get it, he Can. Not. Lead.

The rest of the article, though, fills me with delight! When the insiders have to hold their noses to spend any time with "Stench" RMoney, it does bode well. Let's get out the vote and stick it to him!

One of the keys to good management is hiring the right people and being willing to get rid of those who are not doing their jobs well. Looking at his campaign Romney seems to be failing on both accounts. This is a bit surprising to me because I guess I had bought some of the hype about his management skills.

So if he can't run his campaign how is he going to run the country?

as being executive of a social institution. As president of the whole USA the vast majority are not going to say good job when he puts 100,000 people out of work to leverage a few million for his friends. There is a HUGE difference. Ask our last total failure CEO president... if you dare to see him one on one in public this election season.

I honestly don't think Willard could personally organize a two car funeral on a one way street even if you spotted him the hearse.

He is used to giving orders and having others do his dirty work for him. No one has ever stood up to the asshole or questioned him in his entire life. He's never been confronted with any kind of adversity or any situation he couldn't buy his way out of. He is a spoiled brat who thinks he's entitled to anything he wants because he's Mitt Fkin' Romney.
