What kind of BULLSHIT compromise is this bullshit idea in regards to the PA Voter ID Laws

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2012/09/judge_in_pa_voter_id_case_mull.html#incart_river_default

The voter ID law allows for provisional ballots to be cast by those who left their IDs at home when they go to the polls. But their vote won't be counted unless they produce an acceptable photo ID to election officials within six days of the election.

Really?

Sounds like the GOP is pressuring their judges to find a solution that 'looks' like they are compromising on that wretched voter ID bill but still allow them to steal Pennsylvania.

Obama won by 10pts in PA in 2008 or about 650k votes. They say voter ID bill could disenfranchise up to a million voters which if you do the math means that PA GOP could steal the election for Romney.

Think of what kind of trainwreck would ensue if a million voters have to take time out of their schedule to run back to the county office somewhere to scrounge up their IDs to prove their votes are valid. Sounds like they want to create a gridlock that will hopefully favor Romney in the end because if all the legitimate voters were counted Obama would win easily.

This is absolute BULLSHIT.

And what's worse is there has been 3 examples like in the last century of voter fraud in Pennsylvania....THREE!!!

What bullshit!

1. I read that this morning (in the Patriot-News print edition). It's no different than the law.

Provisional ballots are rarely if ever counted. The election is decided when the polls close in Hawaii and they don't bother with the leftovers. I seriously thought Simpson would accept the PASC rules and issue a REAL injunction, but I'm saddened that he's leaning the opposite way. I doubt there's time for the PASC to step in again, but they certainly have the ability to do it.

4. Taking the current EV map of today - no, Obama would not win

This is the current map of the US by electoral votes and how states are leaning. If the election were today and the outcome mirrored this map Obama would win 328 to 206 with New Hampshire in a tie but not needed.

If Romney can do the trifecta and steal Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida (67 Electoral Votes) that would make it 273 to 261 (again NH as a tie but it wouldn't help Obama). Obama would have to pull out a win in North Carolina or Arizona to get the win, maybe a win in Missouri if Akin hurts the GOP ticket. But he would need 10 Electoral votes somewhere and that's a tough call.

5. You have to realize and accept that this state elects judges in "nonpartisan" elections

It's total BS! When I moved back here I went nuts trying to find info about candidates for every local office, especially judges. I got nothing from anyone. Local Democratic party offices? No phone listing, personal visit? All the people there just seemed to be tacking up space and had no guidance or information. League of Women Voters? They don't have a chapter in the county and no information on the candidates.
So I joined a local Democratic club. With the exception of meeting a few local candidates and getting them to pucker up and back away from my questions, it was nothing more than a social club.
This is blue collar SW PA. I grew up in a union family in an old coal mining town. You couldn't have bought a vote from most people for $1,000.
I was ashamed to see what my birthplace mentality had become over the decades. I can't even have an intelligent discussion with those few people I interact with. My only bright light is that my 91 y/o mother asked me to give her some information sources for friends that were more informative than commercial media.
If people are starting to question the information they receive and are looking for other sources, there may still be hope.

Democrats run our state and we're pretty much happy. Property taxes are reasonable, no sales tax and no bullshit voter ID laws trying to steal elections which would be impossible since it's like 2.5-1 favoring Democrats in this state. Only way a republican wins statewide is if they have seriously moderate credentials but unfortunately the tea party will always put in their candidate and closed election primaries favor the tea party.

7. Republicans tipped their hand in 2000 (as to how far they would go to win)

and they did it again in 2004 when they cheated to strip votes from Kerry in Ohio....and again in 2010, when their newly- installed toady governors/secretaries of state all over the place started tinkering around with "rules".

In the 12 years since 2k, we (Dems) could have/should have had (by now) the BEST IDed voters around, but we always complain and then litigate instead of spending that money getting people "bullet-proof" IDs. The worst-case scenario is that people could end up with IDs they may only need when voting, but instead of always playing last-minute catch up, we should have been proactive.

We need to take away the issue as soon as we have a dem house/senate combo...once and for all.

States run their own elections BUT, when races are for NATIONAL offices like pres/house/senate, there needs to be a NATIONAL standard for balloting and identification, and I don't see why congress could not get involved.

We need a standard voter ID card that is accepted EVERYWHERE..even if you move. It makes NO DIFFERENCE what your street address is when you are voting for senate or president.

States have congressperson on every 2-yr cycle ballot
States have president on every 4 yr cycle ballot
Senate seats are on 2 yr cycles, but with 6 year terms and each state only having 2 of them, their schedule changes, but are always in even year increments.

The EASY fix is for those 3 offices to be on SEPARATE ballots...perhaps a 5 x 7 card.

People who want to vote for senate/house/president ONLY, could vote very quickly, and that could prevent states from meddling by creating voluminous ballots full of nonsense designed to slow lines down.

As long as we procrastinate on this issue, and allow republicans to dictate the "terms", we will always have new hoops to jump through.

Most people born after WWII were born in hospitals, and can get birth certificates, so as older people who may have been born at home are no longer a factor, it should get easier to locate "paperwork". Anyone who has ever had a kid in school or in organized sports, or who has filed retirement paperwork has probably had to send for birth certificates/marriage certificates...(our health insurance demanded a copy of our marriage certificate last time around..)

As records get more computerized, it should get easier too.. Dems should grab this issue and run with it. We have proven that we can take an issue away from republicans, and once done, they have a hard time reclaiming it.

While we are at it, we should go for "opt-out" instead of "opt in" as a standard for voting.

Our government KNOWS which of us are citizens. It may not know exactly how many are NOT, but it knows which of us ARE.
Anytime someone is born, is naturalized or marries, a record is created. Our government knows when someone turns 18 or graduates from high school.

Even though there is no draft, boys still have to "fill out the card" when they turn 18. At 18 ALL young people should be registered to vote .....as INDEPENDENTS. The first time they show up to vote in a primary, they can "choose", but they should all be automatically registered as independents as they turn 18.
