and set up a filter to discard all emails addressed to me. I normally receive between 50 and 60 emails a day, 90% of them political. My Cox password was also political. I really believe that someone searched for passwords with 'Obama' in the name and did this.
Cox Communications said it was not possible for them to find out who did it (which I don't believe). I have changed my password, but have lost hundreds of emails. Last time I had checked and had emails addressed to me was 9/12.

(108,980 posts)I had a friend though, whose bank thought nothing of following instructions from Africa to wire money from her account to an account there. She only found out about it after it took place, and it was a huge mess to straighten out.
So things could be worse!

(53,787 posts)This sounds like could be a repug dirty trick. If this is done nationally to email addresses with "Obama" in the name, much of the Obama campaign's email communications could be vulnerable too. Pls alert someone that you know with the campaign.

(6,457 posts)They put the initials FBI in front of my e-mail address so that when I sent an e-mail the letters FBI appeared before anyone could see who the e-mail was from. No one would have opened it if I had not caught this right away.

(23,156 posts)password that is far more random than something with the word "Obama" in it.
A few weeks ago one of my email accounts got hijacked and was sending out spam, and I got a message from the account (It was my yahoo account, if you care) to change my password. As soon as I did that -- and I changed it to a word and number combination that was meaningful to me but I hope not likely to be guessed at -- the outbound spam from me ceased.

If anyone reading this is using the same passwords for other accounts that they used for either Linked In or Yahoo you should change them immediately.
It is very common for people to use the same password on every account they have so the password from one is the password for all. Similarly once someone checks your Yahoo account they see what other accounts you have.
Good luck.
