Just saw the movie ARGO.....

.....so when your conservative friends say that people in the Middle East hate us for our Freedom, you can tell them to watch the first 10 minutes for a history lesson. I had forgotten some of those details. Powerful movie. You could hear the audience sigh with relief when the credits began to roll.

Did you stay to watch the credits? There's something interesting at the end.

The actual people compared to the actors. Didn't they look almost identical? It was amazing. (except for the lead guy...he looked nothing like Ben Affleck. But who does?)

I was in college during this time and the only coverage I saw was reserved for after the late local news.

Fascinating. The film left out the elaborate disguises that Mendez apparently used. Also, if you're in NYC during the next month, the Discovery Center in Times Square has a CIA exhibit that includes the Argo caper. Fascinating.

15. In actualit,y the movie crew left with Canadian embassy staff as they closed

the Canadian embassy. I remember being a teen at the time in Canada. The government of Joe Clark told the opposition leader Pierre Trudeau what was going on, but not NDP leader Ed Broadbent. There was footage of Broadbent, in the house of commons, attacking PM Clark for closing the embassy. Trudeau asked a few questions too to make it look convincing. It made for some interesting footage on the news when the full story came out by the next day.
