(11,792 posts)Worshiped. Guy never voted or lifted a finger to elect people who could better our country. He was an entertainer. Period. I appreciate him for his entertainment, but political philosophy, he was a complete failure.

By not voting, by not declaring himself to a party, disarms the other side from saying he's partisan.

(11,792 posts)What was the purpose? Carlin spent years telling people their vote didn't matter. Like I said, he was an entertainer, and I still laugh at many of his recordings. But, he's definitely not one of my political heroes, far from it. Love his cat/dog shtick, and 7 dirty words is classic.

(26,208 posts)Cherrypicking quotes and taking them literally as some kind of cynical political manifesto that everyone's corrupt and everything's hopeless is, to me, disrespectful of his work and using him to target populist audiences. Nobody ever quotes him mocking "save the planet" and "save the endangered species" environmentalists or all his jokes about political correctness or "I Really Like It When a Lot of People Die."
