Sounds quite a bit different when you've got a sane context to put it in...

Or somebody with a sense that the tinfoil T types could self-cleanse themselves from the gene pool by refusing to get on board a black helicopter!

Saint Ronny's "nine most terrifying words in the English language"...how many times did you hear that effing phrase during the GOP primary campaign??? It almost always followed with a hearty chuckle.

to Nick Anderson.

to FEMA folks.

Actually, if the rescuing service is left to private industry, that would be a lucrative time to negotiate. "If you want our company to pull you out of there, you have to sign over everything you own. This conversation will be recorded".

May be it's good to form Pain Capital to invest in private rescuing companies for time like this. Abolish FEMA, reducing funding to states. Then have Pain Capital companies going around doing business during disasters.

They apply that logic to anything and everything. FEMA? For me, because I'm a Good Citizen who deserves help, but not for those lazy brown people! Abortion? For my daughter, because it was an accident/not her fault/will ruin her bright future, but not for those other slutty girls! Religious freedom? For me, because my religion is the Right One, but not for those other unChristian heathen! Free speech? For me, because I'm Right, but not for those pinko commie bastards! And etcetera.

I was at a social function where a rightwing, conservative, small business owning, and now President Obama hating friend began spouting off about how FEMA should be abolished and Katrina recovery should be of concern to only the states of Louisianna and Mississippi.

I let it go for awhile, then asked ... "Brian ... If it were you or your family stranded on a roof-top with the water rising in New Orleans or Mississippi, would you still say it's the state's responsibility; or would you want the federal government or whatever governmental agency to move heaven and Earth to secure your/their rescue?"

His response: "Yes. I wouldn't want the federal government spending all that money just to rescue me or my family ... it's not their responsibility."

I said, "B.S., I suspect you would accept whatever help that came, regardless of the source, to save your family. Any other choice would mean loving your theoratical ideology over your real life family. That's B.S., and you know it!"

But the priceless thing was watching his equally, rightwing, conservative, and even more now President Obama hating, wife wrestle with the mental conflict of telling her husband he's full of $hit (he had better save her and their kids) versus supporting him in saying that he would be right to allow her and their kids drown for the sake of political ideology.

Totally irrelevant in the context of Hurricane Sandy, but no state has a bigger or more intrusive government. Inefficient. Sprawling. Incompetent. In the "wildly independent" state of Texas, where bullshit walks.
