Idiots. It took them until late yesterday to cancel the Marathon?

The NYC Marathon should have been cancelled on Tuesday. If I fucking knew that in Vermont, what the hell was wrong with the city officials and Bloomburg? This stubborn insistence that the Marathon be held was bad PR, it diverted resources and thousands made their way arduously to NYC.

Yes, I know the marathon is a big marquee event for the city, but it was obvious from Monday night...

1. It was a complete mess that screwed everybody.

It took attention away from the relief efforts. It also put hotels on the spot because many runners had reservations but the rooms were full of victims from Sandy.

The runners were screwed because they continued to come only to find the race was cancelled. They should have stopped it earlier so they could have changed plans. Many runners were sad but understanding about the circumstances. However, they were pissed as hell at the mayor and the organizers for canceling so late.
