Here in Florida we keep seeing the Home Depot political ad

Very ugly anti Obama advertisement.

I'm doing all my future business with Lowes and encouraging my friends to go elsewhere for their building supplies. IMO, if you want to make your business political, be prepared to suffer the consequences.

but my hubby usually goes to lowes when he can. he works all over the region and will stop there when he can. I can't believe they took a risk like that attaching themselves to politics. hmm.

Retailer pressures workers to take anti-Obama “civics course”

A program linked to Americans for Prosperity has been spoon-feeding propaganda to Menards employees
By Adele M. Stan, Alternet

If you live in the Midwest and you’re working on a home-improvement project, you’re as likely to do your shopping at a Menards store as at a Lowe’s or Home Depot. With 270 stores and 40,000 employees, Menards is the third-largest home-improvement chain in the U.S., and one of the largest privately held corporations in the country. But Menards stores sell more than just lumber and building supplies; their employees are sold a bill of goods in the form of right-wing ideology.

However, actually running ads is even more despicable. I've been boycotting that store for years.

...back to being one of boooshie's "Pioneers". When it comes to hardware, first place we go is the LOCALLY owned Ace Hardware...I know the owners and I don't have to walk a marathon around a big box to find the one or two things I need. If I can't find it at Ace, then I go to Lowes...no Menards or Home Despot in this house. A couple years ago I hired a contractor who I instructed NOT to get any of the materials he needs at Home Despot...I said if it cost more to buy it elsewhere, do so. Somehow he did some comparison shopping and found cheaper prices elsewhere...in the end he thanked me cause by not going to Home Despot he could make more money on his future projects. Made my day...

.. there is any substantial difference between Lowes and Home Depot politically, beyond that Lowes hasn't said it publicly YET.

The only real, discernible difference between them is orange and blue.

but I haven't seen a political ad by the Lowes corporation throwing their weight behind romney, and even if they are pro republican, I appreciate their respect for my choice of candidate. And don't misunderstand me, I'm not pushing Lowes. I just mentioned that particular store because they are in direct competition with HD, and do their business in the same neighborhood. Truth be told, in my little town of Key Largo there are only small local stores, and I do most of my trading with them.

... "beyond that Lowes hasn't said it publicly YET." I worked 5 years for HD and have many friends that work for Lowes. Lowes is simply more stealth. Their politics are exactly the same, as are almost all "big box" stores. Perfect examples of what's wrong with America's corporate owners. Crush the "help" and heap unearned rewards on the fatcats.

Good on you for doing business with your locals, that's our only defense against the 1%.

And move my shopping to Lowes which I've been doing more lately anyway. The newer Lowes store is closer then HD.

I haven't seen HD's pro-Romney ad around here though.

lumberyard and/or hardware business. Lowe's is just as bad with their money as Home Depot.

vs.

http://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/pacgot.php?cycle=2012&cmte=C00284885

Nutshell version: Lowes appears to spend a tiny fraction of what HD does on politics, but contributes similarly: e.g., overwhelmingly to Republicans.

I was looking for air filters at that time and they stopped carrying the size I needed.

I managed to find them at ACE Hardware.

Now that I hear of these political ads being run by HD, I will remember this for a long, long, time and
avoid doing business with them.

and thank you for letting me know that they are morons as well. But at the very least, they don't barge into my home to tell me how to vote, which is my major gripe with HD. I don't normally pick stores with politics in mind, but Mr. Home Depot REALLY pissed me off. He just had that obnoxious attitude that all fox and rush watchers have.

Actually Ace is our local small hardware store. Sadly they stock virtually nothing, but they will order.

Every time I go to Home Depot, I get a headache around the 25 minute point. I don't know why, must be something with the air duct system - I don't know, but I always have to leave. Once I get fresh air, I feel better. I don't have that problem anywhere else, so I've been going to Lowe's. I know they're no better, but at least I don't have to suffer an obnoxious TV ad.
