There are so many posters here that are using unreliable information that i decided to start listening to the Emergency Scanners for Staten Island so that i had at least one live direct source.
From 12 hours of on and off listening i can tell you that this situation is no where near as bad as Katrina.
During Katrina I had three computers recording the feeds live for at least 5 days. I still haven't sorted through all the incredible stuff I found even the recording of live shots being fired at the Superdome and Officials arguing for 30 minutes over logistics and tearful reunions over CB.
After 12 hours on the Staten island feed I let it go due to boredom and not wanting to be a voyeur into domestic violence calls (which were the large majority of calls last night.)
The radio feed is a lot more accurate than using the Murdoch papers or a Facebook group as your main source of news. (Really? Facebook for news on an area with a power outage????)

They should be verify their info beforehand.

(27,461 posts)I think we can safely declare Katrina the winner of the worse disaster.
Now that that is settled, back to the people of Staten Island, who nevertheless appear to be in dire need of help and attention.

Please don't trivialize their suffering and my defense of them.
