(64,135 posts)President Biden's problem.
We are supposed to have 3 legislature branches of government, looks like those 20 miscreants are for taking down another branch of the government. Bastards.

(16,973 posts)And the House is one half of the legislative branch, so the crazies are taking down one half of one branch. Which is certainly bad enough, of course.
Thank gods the Dems have control of the Senate!
thanks for the correction, my mistake. Either way they are screwing with democracy.
ShazzieB
(16,973 posts)They are definitely screwing with Democracy. They're a bunch of screw-ups, and that's all they know how to do!

(4,276 posts)"it's the Republicans, not me, it's the Republicans" (paraphrased) that's all. Simple. The question had to do w/how he, Dark Brandon, was going to mop up the GOP's mess these next couple of years. The question was stupid and I don't quite remember, but I do remember Biden's great & simple response.

(10,497 posts)the line This is what happens when you elect MAGAs. They just want to tear everything down.
Of course, Joe is a lot more reasoned than I am, so he would not go there!

(66,107 posts)Why would conflict in the other party in a separate branch of government be of any concern to Biden?
He gave a good answer to a stupid, unnecessary question.
ShazzieB
(16,973 posts)I think asking him for his reaction to what's going on is fine. Acting like it's somehow his job to clean up this mess is just plain silly.
ProfessorGAC
(66,107 posts)But, I don't even understand the point of getting his reaction.
It really doesn't affect him, no matter who the Rs pick. They're going to obstruct, fail to do their jobs, and try to push nonsense that won't get a veto proof majority and what get through the senate, no matter what.
I'd expect his reaction would actually be "Whatever".

and it kind of is your problem. This is a disaster and no one seems to realize that. 50%!of our government because we have only two parties in our system of government and those 2 parties have made it impossible for the addition of a 3rd party. 50% of anything not working is pretty much the end of it. Had the justice department done its job we would not be here.
It is sad to see Dems at least some seeming to enjoy watching whats going on
and I might be too if it was t for the fact that over 350 million of us depend on government functioning. In a Soap Opera this kind of drama 🎭 works in government it doesnt as we have found out recently after the loss of 1 million Americans to COVID because of GOP incompetence/ criminal negligence.

(114,907 posts)And since the F'n, insurrectionist pukes are doing everything in their power to destroy President Biden, WHAT, exactly, do you think he ca, or should, do about them?

(956 posts)seem to want to absolve Republican of their responsibilities and push blame onto Dems. This may come as a shock, but despite all recent evidence, Republicans are adults and should be capable of acting like it. Democrats cant, and shouldn't, be expected to save Reps from themselves.

(16,973 posts)The people who desperately want to drag him through the mud are obviously not going to be interested in anything he has to say.
The Republicans made this mess themselves, and they're the only ones who can unmake it.

(2,541 posts)There is a codified process to remove members of congress who break the Oath they are required to take. Application and enforcement of the law if for no other reason than to show the rest of the world that that "rule of law" meme we expect of other countries we ally with means something.

(114,907 posts)NOTHING TO DO with Congressional disciplinary matters. SEPARATE, CO-EQUAL, branches of government.

(3,092 posts)but it is not President Biden's problem that the Republicans cannot or will not govern.
Should he own their mistakes - NO - they alone own them
Will it affect all of us - Perhaps and we may never truly know what is on Hunter Biden's MacBook
Did the DOJ do their job - Fuck No
The last point is under President Biden. Garland is a wimp.

(1,277 posts)the greatest wealth inequality in history, Russia and the threat of nuclear war/ energy supply destabilization, and the potential loss of the vestiges of democracy in the US and in various other nations, any period in which no progress is made in the US government is in itself a terrible problem. For a democracy to function there have to be at least two viable parties committed to democracy. When the Republicans refused to have a brokered convention to pick another candidate and chose Trump because they realized that he was so wildly popular with their authoritarian base that they could not win without him, they put party before country and put democracy on the edge of death. An authoritarian party doesn't commit to democracy, until the corporate Republicans take back their party or produce another viable party democracy will be one election away from demise in the US.
That said, few things are more futile than stepping into a family brawl at the wrong time. I'm sure that when the Republicans come to a hiatus in their internecine puerile squabbling President Biden and the Democrats will hand them a towel to wash the dung off and try to work with the Republicans as much as possible.

(3,653 posts)This is called leadership. They should be able to work it out. Don't put this at the Democrats' doorstep.

(82,849 posts)Notably, none of them thought the Senate Republicans should intervene while Majority Leader McConnell was stealing two seats on the Supreme Court for the reactionary radical conservatives.
So if the House Republicans are assiduously shooting themselves in the foot (politically speaking), I'm not sure why it's up to the Democrats to come to their rescue.
