Helping friend on his campaign help Wayne Powell decide whether to run in '14. Thoughts?
Do you think his seat is safe because of how district lines are drawn

(131,073 posts)but I don't live there and don't really know.
Henrico County, which went Blue. I voted for Powell obviously, but my nephew told me he read somewhere (I can't remember where he said) that the latest redistricting made a good portion of Cantor's district one of the most red in the state. We are going to have to have a heck of a candidate to beat him.
Here is what it says his district is:
7th District of Virginia: Jurisdictions
Part of: Henrico, Richmond city, Chesterfield, Caroline, and Spotsylvania
All of: Hanover, Goochland, Louisa, Madison, Orange, Culpeper, Rappahannock, and Page
Henrico is split - west end = red, east end = blue...his district obviously includes western Henrico, and a very red part of Chesterfield. ALL of the other counties are CRAZY Red. It will tough to beat him, but we can do it with a potentially moderate candidate with funding.

(131,073 posts)'Funding' may be the answer. I think Powell can be seen as 'moderate.'

In conversations with a few Dems at work - MODERATE dems, they said that Powell could come across as a little "extreme". Was a passing conversation, but I will follow up with them to see what they meant and get you back that feedback if you want. Not sure if it's valuable or not. The district is pretty conservative, even Dems are more moderate Dems from what I can see.

(131,073 posts)I do think that Wayne Powell is 'moderate,' was looking for his first tv ad: 'You're my kind of Republican.' I thought DUers wouldn't take to him for this reason.
If you get any good feedback, I'd to share it with my friend who worked on Powell's campaign.
Thanks
Seems to me that with info from this election, useful strategies can be developed.
