I truly did not post political things on Facebook. For me, it is a place to keep up on friends and family. I'm not going to read any more whining about Obama there. If it gets posted, the poster gets unfriended. The election is over. It's time to return to normalcy, in my opinion, at least on social media sites like FB. I can't control what others write there, but I can control whether or not I see it from people on my friends list.

(173 posts)I've had a FB Account for a few years but rarely used it because of the trite and frankly stupid comments from many of my friends.
But when I started to see more and more hateful comments about Obama from family and friends, I decided to overwhelm them with facts and my opinions, including feeds from a variety of liberal, progressive and Dem sites.
I challenged those people to openly comment and debate. Some did others hid.
For me it was an opportunity to display my wrath against the GOP and all those who follow it, for four years of vile, racist, obscene and hate filled comments about this President.
Yesterday I "unliked" all the feeds, cleaned up my site but will continue to use it to promote Progressive and Liberal ideals.
This country is polarized, like it or not, and they won't give up. They're just hiding now, licking their wounds, bewildered and confused. But the GOP and my family and friends will only double down.
So will I.

(146,325 posts)For me, Facebook is only a way to keep in touch with friends and family, who are scattered across the country. Arguing with them about politics affects nothing in terms of election results, and only leads to bad feelings among that group. By not engaging in fruitless arguments over such issues, I maintain a steady relationship with all of them. Every last one of them lives in a state that went for President Obama. There was nothing to be gained by political disputes with them, and much to lose.
You can use Facebook for whatever reason you see fit, and I will do the same. For me, it is not a political forum. I'm already involved with plenty of those, and in places where my work can lead to results.
