I'm in Oregon and basically republicans are shut out of state-wide offices...although we do have many overwhelmingly red counties. Anyway, I was joking with my wife and step-daughter that you can always tell which yard sign was for a republican--they never mention party affiliation. The Dems here almost always do. After the joke, I started looking more closely and it appears to be no joke--you're more likely to see them self-identify as a child molester than a republican.
Does this happen elsewhere? In the red areas, do the Democratic candidates "hide" their affiliation?

(13,468 posts)Our state representative's campaign called me and said she was supported by such and such "family" organization and WOULD NOT RAISE TAXES. I had voted for the woman in every election and thought she was a Democrat, but the lady on the line hadn't said it so I asked to make sure "Is she a Democrat?" Silent pause, then a weak voiced "yes", and I said "GOOD, I will vote for her then, I wouldn't vote for a Republican if they were the last human being on Earth." She acted like she didn't know what to say, it seemed she was waiting for some Republican to curse at her or something.
She won re-election, this is Lexington afterall, a college town with 'baggers being countered by educated folks. I don't know what she was afraid of, the general atmosphere I suppose.

(11,923 posts)25 of the 27 open offices had Dems that had won. Only 2 had Repubs. THAT may be why. There was this one guy who actually put it on his sign. Something else I've noticed is that Repubs are 'going green' and blue. Most of their signs are printed in blue/white or green/blue/white. Hardley any have red on them. Dems had red/white/blue on most of their signs. The Repubs almost seem "red" shy.

(114,904 posts)they don't even have paid staffers. And here there's more then just the Dem party. We have a viable Progressive party and the Dem/Working Families.
We are the bluest state in the country.

Around here, repugs masquerade as Dems. Their Pennsylvania Auditor General candidate had a million signs up saying 'Democrats for Maher'. Of course, like previous campaigns where 'Democrats for Reagan (or Bush, Dole, McCain)' signs were put up, they never were on any Democrats' actual property, thereby illustrating an allegedly defecting Dem who wants to back the repug candidate. Instead the signs were displayed on road sides and highway interchanges, showing that either the tarmac is defecting from our party, or the repug candidate is 'hiding' under the descriptor "Democrat".
