Is there any way to patronize LOCAL merchants (thinking Costco) so that the money (via paypal) could go to their communities instead on into Amazon's pockets?

Maybe they will set one up. It would be helpful to have money flowing into & staying in the affected communities. I'm sure they could arrange for transporting the goods locally since so many are car-less.
He is calling me back on Monday.

design, programming, testing, etc... Maybe they could come up with an alternative solution.

Purchases are now currently being sent to one address and distributed from there.
