So the news last week was that she had been diagnosed and would be hitting the yak venues this week about it. The immediate thought was that she would be unveiling herself as a healthy-cooking entrepreneur. And here she is on the Today show "giving her old recipes a (healthy) twist."
A couple of alternatives might be just going away or apologizing or something. She's telling ROKER that she's ALWAYS eaten in moderation all along, somehow wasn't doing really unhealthy things that she's changing.

(21,043 posts)When I lived in Spain, I ate fatty, and I ate a lot, and I weighed less than I do here in the States. Also, I didn't have to fight for weight maintenance at the gym. In fact, I didn't have a gym. In FACT, I never exercised when I lived in Spain. I just lived the normal life that Spaniards do, walking here and there because cities and towns there are un-sprawled and therefore designed for walking and taking their excellent public xport.
What I didn't eat a lot of was fast food. No McD for me over there, although they do have McDs. One interesting thing about McDs over there: their fish sandwich LOOKS like fish. It doesn't look like a square piece of mystery meat. They also serve wine at McDs, and I think that moderate wine drinking (with meals only) helps keep weight in check, and the body healthy.

(1,734 posts)would make you sick?
The woman profits from encouraging people to clog their arteries, gets Type II diabetes as a result of her awful lifestyle, and is now going to hock drugs to fight the preventable sickness that she gave herself with her diet. Only in America.

(14,549 posts)In marketing there is a concept called "Thought Leadership" -- it is used primarily in corporate marketing but applies here. The basic idea is that you not only sell your products but also enhance and position your brand by talking authoritatively about trends and new information or studies.
Paula Deen the person, doesn't deserve the torture that is Type II diabetes. No one does and I wish her the best in dealing with this disease.
but Paula Deen, the brand, is forever diminished and tarnished by this. Now the audience will see a sick person cooking the food that got her sick. Imagine if the Marlboro Man revealed that he had lung cancer and then continued to appear in commercials for cigs. I think this is similar. Her brand is being an authority on indulgent southern cooking. She can't suddenly become the Queen of Diabetes maintenance cooking because she has no authority in that.
She has a tough road ahead and my heart goes out to her.

(61,695 posts)her high fat recipes. Her size doesn't say that to me, and weight is a risk factor in development of Type 2.
She went on the Today show and said their website was going to help everyone with Type 2. Sure, right, whatever.
I've decided not to like her personally any more after not liking her recipes.

(12,287 posts)GMA this morning. She was diagnoised 2 years ago. She was waiting for some kind of monetary reason to expose it. Then I also realized that there is no reason for her to expose it or tell anyone, so the only reason she is talking about it is for a new line of food products.
