(24,946 posts)The more we learn about their corruption, and I include these recent decisions that they DID NOT HAVE TO TAKE, the worse it gets!

(6,892 posts)The Federalist Society has been at this for decades. "Rigged" might be the least of it. "Planned and paid for" with legislative collusion is evident.

(3,107 posts)who are fast forwarding us to a fascist society? Who has the will and courage to do it? I'd be willing to add them to the SPLC's list of hate organizations, but no one has ever done that before. Why? Because they have enough money to ruin anyone who attempts it? Because no one has seriously thought of taking them out of this form of corruption and hate?
Do we, as Democrats and Liberals, have anything that comes even close to what Federalist Society and Heritage Foundation are? Do the PACS or "societies" we can lay claim to have the consistent billionaire money coming into it? Do they lay plans and work towards fruition the way FS and Heritage do? I'm actually asking here... I don't really know.
And it's important to know. Because on the surface what these societies do is not illegal nor immoral. They are there to research good policy and work to implement it.
But for every good surface motive, there is a right way and a wrong way to manifest your reality - especially when that reality bares no resemblance to actual reality, and seeks to move our country in a way contrary to its founding.
And what effects one society should effect all of them. Otherwise, we really are putting these things in one box marked "bad" and one marked "good"... but here's where our partisan divide seems intractable. Everything Democrats, Liberals, and Progressives believe is bad policy - Satanic - to the other side. And we can see that cruelty is the point of their side.
I just don't see any good way out of this. The "conservatives" and Repugs have so killed the idea of the United States of America that we might as well be two countries. In every way we interact, we already are. And without going back and rejudging the end of the Civil War and Reconstruction, I really would like to send all these people to their own landmass - far away from the U.S.A. YMMV.

(6,892 posts)The 2024 election is the last shot at saving 'democracy' we all grew up believing in. Corporate/oligarch money has been running the show since Reagan. Getting their way long before that. Oil interests effectively stop climate change regulations at virtually every turn. Students/youth and women will lead a blue tsunami at all election levels. It may be too late. AI and unlimited dark money are not going to go away. The tools to get back to a government that can mitigate this attempt at an authoritarian take over of the USA lie at the ballot box. The picture is becoming very clear with tfg and the SC just ignoring all we hold dear.

(49,401 posts)something generated by AI. I'm assuming that started with a real photo, anyway. It gets too many little details right for it to be likely AI-generated.
Great way to symbolize what's been done to the Supreme Court.
