"I will go to South Carolina and hang the first secessionist I see..."

So spoke President Andrew Jackson during the nullification crisis of the 1830s with the south, in particular the state of South Carolina. He was ready to hang fire-breather John Calhoun and any other rabble rouser threatening disunion. This coming from a slaveholder and a citizen of the south.

My asshole governor made a very stupid statement concerning secession, and of course the media pounced on it. Contrary to popular belief, including here at DU, the vast majority of us in Texas took it as a pronouncement from a very ignorant man and chose to ignore it.

Now, I'm reading of the nine lawmakers in Wisconsin threatening to ARREST federal officials over the implementation of Obamacare?? And, petitions are going out in several states supporting secession, including here in Texas. Our local rag, the Dallas Morning News, had a story on this. And now I'm finding that there are some really crazy folks down here actually speaking seriously of this. I was dismayed to see some senior students here at my school yelling between classes in the halls the other day for our state to secede. I live in one of the reddest counties in the nation, and I know they're hearing this shit from their parents at home.

I have to say I'm getting really pissed now. An election has been lost, and the crazies are doubling down. I have already had to mention to a few that what they are saying is treasonous, and I refererred them to the nullification crisis, and of course, to the Civil War. I even turned it around on someone else (like they did to us in the Bush years, remember?) asking them why do they hate America, and to love it or leave it!

This garbage needs to stop now before it gets too serious. I'm not laughing anymore. I'm upset that these so-called tea party "patriots" are even bringing up this ridiculous notion. I sincerely hope we're not going to be faced with another four years of this, but I can't see things changing, quite frankly. Too many people out there have some serious mental problems that only counseling and medication can possibly cure. I'm sure Obamacare will help with the tab.

I saw a post earlier about impeaching Rick Scott, and there have been rumbles to impeach Rick Perry since 2004.

How can we do this?

Imagine what assholes they would have been if they had won! Fuck 'em. They CAN"T secede unilaterally. If they think they can go to war over this, let them. I double dog dare them
