"Based on our forecast, the state and local government sector’s share of gross state product (GSP) will grow by 5.0% in 2017 in Washington, and 1.7% in Colorado," wrote IHS economist Steven Frable.

That revenue will prove especially helpful for Washington, which is currently running a 20 percent deficit. (Colorado's deficit is only 2 percent.)

My doubts as that I have that much time left.
Money they'd make off the taxes and the money saved from enforcing the present laws and the cost of incarceration to me it would be a nobrainer.

will get more states to legalize. Nothing speaks louder in our greed-is-good country than money. There's just too much of it to be made and why should the cartels have all the fun?

i would not be surprised if legal cannabis brought in a million or more a month in sales tax for this one city. that's quite a budget hole being plugged.

It's not just about the taxes coming in, but also about the waste of money going out in LE and court costs, too. The amount of money saved is ridiculous.

I would be willing to bet good money that Obama and DOJ will NOT pursue prosecutions under fed law in these states. I don't know what form it will take - under the radar or explicit, but I do believe anti-MJ laws at all levels - in states that have passed authorizing MJ legislation (and implement in reasonable, well-considered ways) will go the way of the
