Here is a list of the 673 books removed from teachers classroom shelves in Orange County for fear they might violate state law and rules on sexual conduct: Some might be returned to shelves after further review.

(3,358 posts)Where high school juniors and seniors read "real literature" and write essays about them. These are exactly the sorts of books they read in those classes, and will be tested on.
I wonder how parents are going to like it when their kids don't get the college credit that comes from doing well on the AP exams.

(3,358 posts)and say, "We won't accept for credit high school bio classes that don't teach evolution... chemistry classes that ignore climate change, literature classes that ban literature."
Students have to have certain high school classes to get admitted to the state unis, and the first time a student's high school classes are denied, parents will be howling.
Of course, in Florida, the governor seems to be absolute dictator over the universities, so maybe it wouldn't work there.

(15,062 posts)not only were many of those books on summer reading lists (in a "pick one of the following" fashion) but I spotted at least five which were assigned reading for the whole class in various English/lit classes.
And I turned out fine, though probably not how a fundie Xian Repug would want me to be.
