We've had to work very hard like everybody else, but no way could have have been remotely achieved what we've done here in our country of birth. Consequently, we're also able to help those who still live there.

The US had much higher mobility that those other countries between 1850 and 1950.

So the population is much more split into socioeconomic classes.

This is what you get when you have a two-party system with one party that wants to help the 1% at the expense of the 99%

The division between the poor and rich is just too big in America to give lower incomes good opportunities to move upward.

Especially so for folks that come here from elsewhere.

I think that that being born here makes one (to a greater or lesser degree) take the opportunities we have for granted.

There are plenty of obstacles to achievement, but if you really want it and work toward achieving it this country still allows success.
