Netanyahu Praises Obama, U.S. For Role In Brokering Cease-Fire

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday praised the efforts of President Barack Obama for helping to broker a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

Netanyahu said Obama was steadfast in his support for Israel's right to defend itself as well as in the country's Iron Dome system, an Israeli air defense system which the prime minister said successfully intercepted most of the rockets aimed at the country from Gaza. He added that Obama pledged to help Israel prevent the smuggling of arms to terrorist groups — "the vast majority of which," according to Netanyahu, come from Iran.

“I have to say all this was done with the firm support on the part of the leaders of the international community. And I would like especially to thank President Barack Obama for his unreserved support for Israel’s actions in the operation and for Israel’s right to defend itself, as well as his support for the Iron Dome systems," Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu offered similar praise for the work of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and expressed his "appreciation" for Egypt's role in the agreement. Netanyahu said that

Readout of the President’s Call to Prime Minister Netanyahu

President Obama spoke to Prime Minister Netanyahu today and reiterated his commitment to Israel’s security.

The President made clear that no country can be expected to tolerate rocket attacks against civilians.

The President expressed his appreciation for the Prime Minister’s efforts to work with the new Egyptian government to achieve a sustainable ceasefire and a more durable solution to this problem.

The President commended the Prime Minister for agreeing to the Egyptian ceasefire proposal – which the President recommended the Prime Minster do – while reiterating that Israel maintains the right to defend itself.

The President said that the United States would use the opportunity offered by a ceasefire to intensify efforts to help Israel address its security needs, especially the issue of the smuggling of weapons and explosives into Gaza.

The President said that he was committed to seeking additional funding for Iron Dome and other US-Israel missile defense programs.

Bad behavior all around. Increasing flow of U.S. dollars to Israeli defense contractors for Iron Dome did not buy proportional response this time, as was the intention behind providing U.S. funding for that system to begin with. That program has failed in the larger sense, and should be reconsidered along with the rest of U.S. military aid to Israel.

I really think the bus bomb and the potential for a long drawn out ground conflict did more to get this deal through than anything else. Hats off to HRC. In no way do I mean to belittle her role in this nor the President's role. We never really know what goes on behind the scenes. Just glad it is over for now.

with the exception of the bitter and ignorant 47% of Americans who rely on Rush Limbaugh, Sean Insanity, and Fake News to tell them what to think. These 47% pay little to no income tax, are dependent on the right wing entertainment complex, and believe they are victims who will not take personal responsibility for themselves. No American can convince them to take care of their lives.

As glad as I am this cease fire happened.
I get sick of the U.S getting involved with this never ending problem.

If our country wasn't in such a mess right now.
I would like to see President Obama and Hillary be the main brokers in a two state deal.
