From the source material and the trailer, I can tell this will be a mindless, explosion-fueled rah-rah patriot movie with no relevance whatsoever. North Korea invading America? Really? A third-world dictatorship that can't even finish a skyscraper? Sorry Thor, but I can't support you this time.
If you want an action-packed political thriller with brains, read my book instead. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008HL4XM0

(26,263 posts)I've never seen a film so filled with bad cliche dialog. Really bad cliche dialog. I'll wait until this 2nd one shows up on cable. That way if it's as bad as I suspect, I can just flip the channel. Some things just aren't worth watch, for a couple of snarky laughs.

(260 posts)But for now, it's $2.99. I only get 70% in royalties anyway.
Most action-thrillers have a conservative viewpoint, like Tom Clancy, Orson Scott Card and (ughh) Brad Thor. I flipped that on its head and made one with a liberal viewpoint instead. I hope you like it.

I read Athena Project by Brad Thor and thought it was meh.

(34,179 posts)This the same film industry that has made movies out of bad TV series(Dukes of Hazard, A Team) and remade every possible movie they possibly can, no matter whether the original was good, bad or middling.
I find it amazing when anything creative and original comes out of Hollywood these days.

North Korea reunites, oil spikes to death, USA dollar collapses, Korea invades and takes Hawaii & West Coast, and Midwest is the new Homefront.
rather silly, an excuse for commie fear mongering and yahoo gun nut fantasies of shooting up Americans & Asians with San Francisco backgrounds. i don't remember if it did very well in the game market.
so laughably dated and implausible, and yet here it is. and where did all that money come from for what sounds like an obviously bad entertainment investment? it's like someone out there is funding fear mongering or something...

(73,631 posts)It was made in Metro Detroit, so other than bringing some much needed revenue to the local economy, I can't see what's so great about it.
Unfortunately, Gov Snyder put an end to the tax breaks for movie productions in this state. While it was effect, movie production exploded here, now that it's gone, so are the incentives. The word was once out to Hollywood that Michigan was open for business and that was for both good movies and bad ones alike.
Whatever that they were making, come here and spend your money, I say. It's all green.
The Michigan GOP, I have no idea why they do half the shit that they do, but since they've taken over this state, most of it makes absolutely no sense.

(36,437 posts)he locates Red Dawn as one of the Vietnam recuperation films, along with the Rambo films and others. The only way to recuperate the American self-conception after Vietnam was to utterly reverse the roles, such that the Americans are the ill-equipped guerrilla army fighting off the mechanized invader force. The only way to make Americans feel good again after Vietnam was to turn Colorado teenagers into the Viet Cong!
It's a perfect analysis of the imaginary implied in Red Dawn.
