day 1 without cable tv

For the first time since .... well ... cable tv.
The decision was made, but we kept putting if off (olympics, british open, ryder cup, etc...)
The Sounders lost and that was it
We turned in our c*mcast equipment.
still have Internet and may output PC to large flat screen someday
no more holiday commercials, political adds, RW media crapola
We'll miss Rachael, Lawrence, family guy and sports, but I think that's it

I will check in again in 1 year to let you know if I made it.

PS. Who else lost their local progressive radio station...i'm portland and I believe Seattle lost their station?

Lastly, my post is count low, but I'm not one of those douche-nozzle trolls (or agent provocateurs as H20 man would say) that screw up good threads

Have a great holiday and solstice...late

We have not had cable ever and where we live, it is extremely hard to get DTV. So, not TV. We watch the shows we like on the net (most of them are shown free of charge 24 hours later).

watch--perhaps not immediately, but the next day (masterpiece, castle, etc) not to mention the libraries generally have a wonderful collection of dvd's.

and a wonderful holiday season and solstice to you, as well.

5. I quit 11 months ago today! I pay for internet and voila all my 'tv' is free!

I watch Lawrence and Rachel and more per:

edit: I live stream in real time!

Family guy? I think I know at least one link for it....I'll go look. Go directly to the 'big' networks lik ABC, NBC, etc. and you can see their series....maybe a day behind schedule but.....it's free! I watch "Revenge" live (I can tell you how) and re-watch to pick up all the subtleties on the network a day or a week or a month, whenever, later! Can you tell I'm, happy?

My dad used to call me a vidiot, so I'm going to try and unplug for awhile.

Although I'm watching V on dvd as I type...does that count

6. For all intents and purposes I have lost my progressive radio station, but I don't

need it. The signal was so bad it was hard to listen to. But now I am able to get Thom Hartmann and Stephanie Miller over the TV. Actually you can stream Thom Hartmann on the internet too. I miss Randi Rhodes and Mike Molloy but cest la vie.

9. Yes, there should be a law.

I think there needs to be a law to break up the stranglehold Clear Channel and Premier have on the radio market. They possess all the best air waves in my county and our little dinky independently owned progressive station can't compete. They might go out of business and also seem to be playing sports more often than in the past. It may be how they end up or maybe they might become a Spanish station.

10. Shit. My day 1 was over 30 years ago. "I got 13 channels of shit on the TV to choose from."

It's 500 or something now, but it's still shit.

Did you know that "Where the Tigers Run Free" is the only track that didn't make it onto the album?
