A 13-year-old Georgia girl accused of stabbing the 2-year-old sister that was left in her care.
Tyasia Jackson will be tried as an adult, after her mother came home on Monday afternoon to find the girl -- 2-year-old Sasha Lamaya Ray -- stabbed seven times in the chest, WSB-TV reports.
"She died in my arms," Shelton Ray -- Sasha Ray's biological father and Jackson's stepfather -- told the station.
Shelton Ray said he had received a call from Jackson, saying that her sister was missing and that she thought the neighbors might have taken her. Shelton Ray and his wife sped home to try and locate Sasha, and found the bleeding toddler in the backyard. She died before they could get her to a hospital.

What a tragedy and how disturbing it is for a sibling to stab her 2-year-old sister.

(75,480 posts)are forced to baby sit them. My mother told me that she was left in the care of her older sister while her mother worked. She said her sister tried to give her way to strangers, drown her, push her in front of cars until she got big enough to fight back. I had a friend when I was about seven who had to let her four year old sister tag along when we played together. She also tried all kinds of ways to ditch her sister, lock her in closets and even once she put her in a deep hole she was too small to climb out of. When I realized my friend really meant to leave her in the hole, I went back and got her out. But actually sticking a sharp blade into another child is certainly more than disturbing.

(115,706 posts)My little brother was born when I was 12, so of course I was stuck babysitting him fairly often. By the time he was two, I thought he was a huge pain in the ass, but it never even occurred to me to hurt him in any way. I just whined about having to look after him. Why would a kid ever seriously harm a sibling, even one they didn't care much for?

(75,480 posts)I know my aunt was very weird and my childhood friend grew up to lead a rather troubled life. Her sister though used to look me up occasionally when we were in the same orbit. She had become a military wife and when we got together she always remembered that I had rescued her from her sister. LOL!

(24,565 posts)I cannot see any justification for treating a 13 year old as an adult.

Thirteen year olds are not anywhere close to being able to think like adults versus reacting emotionally. Hence, no drivers licenses, etc.

(2 posts)I would have to disagree. This young lady is disturbed. I'm waiting to hear more about her background and story, but I find it hard to believe that the average 13 y/o would consider doing this to their much younger sibling, let alone anyone. She is a threat to society and the viciousness of her actions call for her being punished to the fullest extent of the law. She was old enough to try and cover up her lie and blame it on the neighbor who made her boyfriend leave the house. She was also old enough to know better.

(3,696 posts)Typically the headline on this type of story would simply read 12 year old stabs 2 year old sibling. Perhaps I'm being too sensitive about this but it struck me as inappropriate. I often find fault with headlines used on Huff Post though.

(2 posts)If she were being tried as a minor you wouldn't get any details about her name or potentially the victims name for possibility that hers would be leaked as a result.
