(19,053 posts)Larry Hagman, who emerged in the 1960s as the slightly befuddled astronaut in "I Dream of Jeannie," then became a major star in the 1980s primetime soap "Dallas," playing evil oil baron J.R. Ewing, has died. He was 81.

(26,289 posts)I was a big fan of Dallas and always thought he was the best villian, ever, on American television. And, let's face it, he grew the most impressive set of eyebrows, ever.

(102 posts)...I saw an interview, years ago, it may have been Oprah, where he was talking about a near death experience he had. I was going through a rough time totally caused by religious dogma (mormon bs), and he said that he had done some really bad things in his life, things he wasnt proud of, and was worried about what came next...then had his nde...and said that unless you are a truly evil person....you have nothing to worry about from death...the love and light, the sense of well being..of goodness (all paraphrasing, of course).....That is another thing I will remember Larry Hagman for...for giving me that small bit of peace, amongst the bullshit fear of/in religion.

(9,463 posts)gave you the inspiration you needed to feel better about your situation. Outside of his acting and being part of my life in that regard, I was glad he was an investor and supporter of renewable energy. The juxtaposition of JR Ewing hawking solar panels was brilliant.

(9,463 posts)a fan of Larry Hagman. He could do it all from funny to dramatic. He made JR Ewing a globally recognized charater. He was a champion of renewable energy. He was a good man with a decades-long good reputation.
I will miss him and remember him.
