(53,339 posts)But you've been doing important work in your own right, and many of us here admire you for what you're doing. Writing, photography...and saving lives.
Maybe that thing we went through, that fucked us up so much, also had a positive effect on us. I like to think so...

(23,926 posts)If so, that's a WAY old, but very cool bird. (I was a grunt, but my Dad was a career Naval Aviator.)
Actually, the longer I look, and based on the pilot's helmet, they're probably Intruders or Warthogs. The distortion through the canopy makes it tough to tell.

(15,438 posts)again. The hard work the average American must do in order to fight for his/her rights, and those of his/her fellow American, just puts a big fat smile on my face.
I do my part by warning people against the plantation like business model (actually, counting in inflation, American slaves were paid MORE than Wal-Mart employees) of Wal-Mart and Target, and stay away from those types of stores, going there only once every two, three months at the most.
I buy all I need at grocery stores that are unionized, even if I have to pay $0.50 cents or even a $1 more. I feel good when I do that while I feel horrible buying anything from Wal-Mart. The good thing is, hubby loathes Wal-Mart. The only time we go there is to pick up a bottle of Lucas oil additive for the cars when they need an oil change. The price for a bottle of Lucas oil additive is no cheaper than buying from O'Reilly or AutoZone! In fact, when we are there, I do price comparison, and I don't see the difference between prices, or it's so minimal it isn't worth shopping there.
My local optometrist (for my 2 kids) is actually CHEAPER by at least $50 dollars per set of glasses! She's been in business for ten years and gives friendly and expert service.
Americans need to learn that we don't need to buy in bulk. We can actually do with a lot less if we really wanted to.

(46,416 posts)our closest supermarket and my husband was getting called in to work, couldn't drive out of our way), and there were less people there than usual. On Black Friday. We pushed our cart up to the registers, and there was a cashier standing out front and called us over--no waiting. WEIRD. I shop there a lot, that only happens on slow weekday mornings. Certainly not the biggest shopping day of the year.

(120 posts)Down with Wal-Mart! I hope we drive those money grubbing corporate pigs right out of business!

(8,554 posts)We both talked about doing it while we ate on Thursday, and tossed the idea back and forth several times again yesterday, but finally decided not to....driving all that way (and facing the nutso traffic) was the deciding factor.
We have a friend who was recently fired by those bastards and since that was the last place on earth she wanted to be now, we couldn't talk her into going for the protest. I do intend to work on changing her mind about joining the picket, tho.
Again, kudos to you for getting out there! Solidarity from a long-time Union gal!

(53,339 posts)I took lots of photos--127--because I didn't know how I was going to tell this story or what kinds of pics would be most useful.
I dreaded facing the chore of having to go through all those pics to select some to post, but it turned out not to be as horrendous a chore as I imagined.
