His former communications director said, "It's incredibly bad," she said. "This is a total blow to the brand of Trump; Trump is as much a brand as he is a businessman in some ways, even more so.
Brand? A failed University which was sanctioned for fraud, steaks which were Outback rejects, a casino empire that went bankrupt, an airline which utterly sank into oblivion, a beauty pageant wherein pubescent girls were exposed in their changing room, a beauty pageant wherein adult women were assaulted, a vinegary variety of champagne, Trump Tea, (a totally forgotten enterprise), a fixed game show, as well as a whole host, actually an adult lifetime of outright lying - none dare call it exaggeration.
This is a brand? This is a catastrophe of capitalism. You know whos a brand as an individual? Lee Iacocca, Steve Wynn, Frank Sinatra, Ed Sullivan, Walt Disney, Frank Perdue, were ..and many others. Their names evoked some fair measures of quality and success. This truly uneducated, uncaring, uncivilized morons name evokes sense of failure and incompetence. This is MAD Magazines definition of a brand - satirically. Except its not fiction, its history.
And with any measure of good fortune, he will be history in a few months as well.

The steaks were USDA Angus certified[8] and came in four packages with prices ranging from $199 (with two bone-in rib-eyes, two filet mignons and 12 burgers),[11] $349, $499, and $999,[12] with the tagline of "The World's Greatest Steaks."
According to Sharper Image CEO Jerry W. Levin, "The net of all that was we literally sold almost no steaks, if we sold $50,000 of steaks grand total, I'd be surprised."

(7,707 posts)He has always carried this Mafia like personality so when all his casinos went bankrupt, I could only assume that he was skimming them, or he hired someone else to skim them for him.
I believe he skimmed all his own business adventures. That thought has been in the back of my mind for years.

(16,588 posts)But when you build 3 casinos in the same city and let them cannibalize each other, it doesn't work so well.
Probably one of his dumbest business moves ever, if not the dumbest. I don't claim to know anything about business or finance, but even I know you don't set up your own businesses to directly compete with each other. You want to compete with your competitors, not with yourself!

But I don't see him deliberately bankrupting his own casinos. He's too proud of his fancy toys to want to make them fail on purpose.
I tend to think he got carried away, building casino after casino until the whole thing fell apart. If fits with his inability to anticipate the consequences of his actions.
TexasBushwhacker
(20,229 posts)unreasonable risks because he knew none of his personal money was at risk. Refinancing his debt and bankruptcy were always a back up AND HE WAS OKAY WITH THAT. He's proud of his successful businesses and has ZERO SHAME about the that failed.

(4,914 posts)Lasted us about 18 months. And we got a hell of a lot more burgers than 12 from that purchase.
Maybe the tRump meat still had the marks where the jockey was using the whip.

This is at my daughters farm in Indiana. They grow all their own produce and trade garden goodies for eggs with their neighbors.
When Im home in the Keys I miss the tasty beef and fresh asparagus, but I make up for it with shrimp and grouper and mango and avocado from my back yard.
You can bet that Trumps beef was one third bull and two thirds shit.

(4,914 posts)Really miss fresh grouper and shrimp. You can get grouper here in Virginia, but its $$$.

(1,385 posts)We bought the whole shebang back in the 70s, around 190kg (410 lbs) of beef. Staggering how much freezer space one needs for that much meat, but never mind that.
Who in their right mind would pay $199 for four steaks and a dozen mince patties? It wasn't even 4 kg of meat, what, just over 8.5 pounds? That's nearly 50 quid per kilo, or $23/lb.
Bloody hell, you can get Angus beef fresh at the local grocer for less than that, even now. Our local market sells Angus ribeyes for less than $20/lb and mince for $7/lb. prime filets are $42/lb, but come out to around $22 for an 8 oz portion. His nasty slabs were 5 oz.
So at my humble grocer, I can get two ribeyes, two (bigger) filet mignons, and 6 pounds of mince of the same or better quality for $129. And they're not frozen, but fresh. That's the cost in 2024. In 2007, that same meat would have been even cheaper!
The extra costs were all for his stupid, useless brand.

(43,426 posts)Every time Trump fails, he falls upward. The Peter Principle states people rise in an organization until they reach their level of incompetence, and then they stay there, which is why there are so many incompetents and the world is so f*cked up.
Never trust con men who make lateral career moves.

(6,943 posts)Of course Trump is a terrible businessman. He is a figurehead of a scam financed by foreign oligarchs like Vladimir Putin.
Profit/loss means nothing. This is not capitalism, it is crony capitalism. He could lose another billionuntil his handlers pull the hook.
