Even worse than Trump running might be Trump not running.
Trump is preaching to the choir of his own MAGA cult. His own party is not totally supporting him. That's been good for the Democrats overall. If he should get out really early, that gives the Republicans more chance to nominate someone they can coalesce behind.
Trump was the only one in the 2016 pack who could not beat Hillary... yet he did.
The repubs hated Hillary so much that they banded together and gave us Trump.

A lot of people are heavily invested in his re-election. He doesn't say anything new or coherent anymore, so they can
fake it till they make it. Perhaps he will be discovered deceased the night before inauguration. Perhaps never.
Just imagine what things would be like if he passes sometime in the next few months, and word gets out.
All those Republican bunnies and panda bears will shed their skins & we'll have a new sequel to Jurassic Park
playing across the country. Plenty not good.

(6,801 posts)7 more months of his shitshow alienating voters. Nothing but negative news is coming. The gop is imploding. Personally, I think Brian Kemp will be the nominee at their convention in July. I've never wanted to be this wrong before.

(15,490 posts)While it's possible that some people who don't like either Trump or Biden, but LOATHE Trump, might switch to different Republican, I think a lot of Republican voter turn-out energy comes from Trump enthusiasts (frightening that there even is such a thing).
I think Trump dying or dropping out or otherwise being replaced as the Republican candidate would take the wind out of the sails of many Republicans. And just think of the conspiracy theories! Any Trump replacement might be considered a Democratic plant by many.

(28,534 posts)MTG? Jim Jordan? Real Republicans have left the party and all that they have left is the looneys. Much less name recognition than Trump, nothing they can claim as accomplishments while already serving. They have no money for the massive ad campaign theyd have to produce to get a new person elected. Not to mention, theyve tied their ships to 45 so supporting someone else would be like admitting they know he did wrong. And he himself will never drop out because its the only legal defense he has left.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
