(8,827 posts)Potential health effects of exposure to static and time varying electric and magnetic fields need scientific clarification. Electromagnetic fields of all frequencies represent one of the most common and fastest growing environmental influences, about which there is anxiety and speculation are spreading. EMF exposure now occurs to varying degrees to all populations of the world, and the levels will continue to increase with advancing technology. Thus, even a small health consequence from EMF exposure could have a major public health impact.

(5,465 posts)cell phone signals are lower power, highly directional and inverse square rules tend to diminish their effects
on the other hand , you don't hold a power transformer up to your ear. maybe they are on to something?

(8,827 posts)When I lived in the South Valley in Albuquerque - my yard was directly under a transformer- I got an EMF meter & drove around my neighborhood taking EMF levels for miles & the highest EMF levels were in my yard. The levels in my house were very high too. I called PNM elec & they came & said - yea - your levels are high - some studies say this can hurt you & some say the opposite.
Anyway- I sold my place - told the new owner of the high EMF levels & they could care less - moved to a rural part of the state. Got 40 acres of rural land with old wooden not very high - not working- transmission lines cutting thru my property . After 10 yrs of living there, PNM buys the right of way from the old lines to put new transmission lines for a wind farm.
Long story short- the same guy who came to my house in Albq was the guy running the info meeting for the new transmission lines & he remembered me.
They offered a few thousand for putting high transmission lines across my property- some neighbors & I held out for more money as the lines devalue property - was offered 80 ft or 90 ft towers - I picked 90 to keep the EMF levels high up there. Luckily the lines were not close to my house.
About 30ft from the lines, EMF readings drop to ok levels.
All this made me do lots of research - Often in my old house I would vibrate in my bed unless I unplugged all the elec in my room and I had a max time of half hr on my computer before I started with internal vibrations.

(1,769 posts)As do all electric/electronic devices. Are you prepared to do without all electricity to avoid EMF?
'Anxiety and speculation' are not evidence, by the way. They're anecdotes.
Electricity can kill you. Or it can heal/help you. What do you plan to tell cochlear implant recipients about the 'dangers' of EMF, when now they can hear when they couldn't without their EMF devices? I stopped having chronic tension headaches after a regimen of electrical massage therapy sessions. My life was miserable until then. Do you think I have one bloody nanosecond of hesitation taking that risk in exchange from no longer living in excruciating pain? I'll spare you the guesswork--I'd do it all over again x infinity +1.
Some people need to learn that everything has bloody risks, including drinking bloody water. Sometimes, you have to do things that might *MIGHT* hurt you to have a life worth living.
