On a thin mattress in a tent in Rafah, with the constant drone of war above him, Mustafa Jamal Kahlout feels lucky to be alive.
He's still recovering from surgery in January for internal bleeding and broken ribs that he says were the result of relentless beatings inside an Israeli detention centre.
Mustafa told the ABC he's not sure why the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) picked him up, but he says their questions suggested they were suspicious he and his family did not follow orders to evacuate to Gaza's south.
"They asked me why I did not travel to the south. I told them my mother is old and my father died, she cannot walk. They would reply that is not enough," he said.

(1,813 posts)Has Hamas punished any of the rapists or murderers from 10/7? Has Hamas promised to find those who carried out these atrocities and hold them responsible?

(1,813 posts)Israel has punished IDF soldiers for making mistakes that cost innocent lives, and its clear that Israeli soldiers have killed people they should not have. But that happens in war. Id prefer that you answer the question I askedhas Hamas condemned the actions of the murderers and rapists on 10/7? Has Hamas promised to prosecute those who killed civilians at a concert or in their homes, or raped and mutilated Israeli women? Has Hamas condemned the kidnapping of hundreds of civilians? Yes or no? Every post you offer on this issue accuses Israel of wrongdoingin this case based on a poorly sourced story. Its completely possible this one person is telling the truth, and he was abused and beaten. And if true then the perpetrators should be prosecuted. But Hamas entire existence is based on killing Israeli citizens, and you continue to point the finger at a country defending itself.

(2,528 posts)It's "Isreal bad because ........ .
If its Hamas bad it's because we know they are bad, somehow that gives them the excuse to be bad because saying they are bad wouldn't change them being bad" or something like that.
Makes my head spin.
And if some posters post first saying that Hamas is bad, it seams to always be followed by "but Israel or but Gaza".
IMHO of course.

(54,041 posts)Just not as badly as Hamas has.
But if you degrade people and then blame atrocities on them... and then go to war with them, war crimes are pretty much guaranteed.
This is why you need to avoid urban warfare. The fight against Hamas has been flawed from the inception, mostly because Netanyahu wanted a distraction from his incompetence and desperate unpopularity
