I know a few vegans. Some of them are self-righteous about their high moral virtue, believ8ng themselves to be better in all respects than those who eat animal products. Their problem is that they sometimes excuse their own bad behavior because they are vegans. This is not unusual. We get the same thing from religious people, opera fans, stamp collectors, Corvette owners... anyone who gets so deeply and passionately involved with something that it takes over their life.

I know many meat eaters and all of them become obnoxious, especially when they laugh about how much they enjoy eating a cow.

Based on their extreme reactions, it seems they're into the power of dominating animals over the flavor of the food or value of eating protein.

In a 2023 interview, Gray told Urban Milwaukee that she met her then-fiance Andren Jett during the COVID-19 pandemic and launched the business a year later. They initially made pop-up appearances throughout the city before opening the cafe, which she now operates as a sole proprietorship.

A limited liability company, Gray Jett Enterprises, was organized in November 2021 and dissolved in November 2023.

~snip

so sounds like she was in some sort of business possibly in 2020, formed a formal company in 2021 (when biden was president) and wants to blame inflation from then until now on Biden. But her concerns are not specifically in regards to the vegan cafe that opened in 2023.

though i have to say it is odd... if she opened the cafe in 2023, that is well beyond the "peak" of the inflation boom that has come in recent years. if she was in the food business prior to that, in 2020 or 2021, surely she was already well aware of the increased cost of food for her business when she opened the cafe in 2023. So if it was too expensive to be sustainable, why did she open the cafe???????? Sounds to me like she is just a bad business person. She knew the operating costs before she ever opened the cafe.

Guessing a vegan cafe on a university campus is not racking up a ton of MAGA customers either so she's probably doing herself no favors by alienating what I'm sure is a VERY Democrat heavy customer base.

She may well have been doing better because of tax breaks, small business start-up and COVID related grants and assistance she was eligible to get in late 2020/2021. The economy is also getting better, so she's getting more competition as other restaurants are going back to normal operations and expanding.

All of this, and now, she's having to pay back on some of those loans without the recovery act tax breaks and subsides. Just like all the other normal people's businesses who aren't quite as brazen as those of GOP politicians who have baldly stated they can't pay back their loans and seek "forgiveness" while they laugh all the way from their accountant's offices.

DeSantis signs ban on lab-grown meat in Florida, says ‘elites’ are pushing it
‘Take your fake, lab-grown meat elsewhere, governor says

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation Wednesday banning cultivated or lab-grown meat in Florida, placing it within a conspiracy by global “elites” to destroy agriculture in the interests of fighting climate change.

The bill (SB 1084) contains a number of programs for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, including provisions allowing members of 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) to get excused absences from schools to attend events.

It also makes it “unlawful for any person to manufacture for sale, sell, hold or offer for sale, or distribute cultivated meat in this state,” punishable by up to 60 days in jail. Food establishments that sell or serve the stuff are also subject to penalties including loss of commercial licenses.

The law defines “cultured meat” as “any meat or food product produced from cultured animal cells.” The USDA began authorizing its sale in the United States last June.

DeSantis waxed indignant about the prospect.

“They want to basically eliminate meat, they want to eliminate cattle, they want to eliminate chickens, all this stuff, and they want to create protein in laboratories. So, it’s essentially lab-created meat. And their goal is to get to a point where you will not be raising cattle, you will not be developing meat like we’ve being doing for hundreds and hundreds of years in the state of Florida,” he said.

No acronym has seen such a sudden, stratospheric rise to fame in the last four years than "MAGA," after President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign slogan "Make America Great Again."

Over the course of Trump's raucous campaign and erratic presidency, the term evolved to become a battle cry of sorts for the right; a way to own the libs in a perfectly manageable two syllables.

Trump vowed to visit the restaurant, 1617 W. Wells St., during the Republican National Convention.

“It’s supposed to be really good. I’m not into the vegan stuff I must say, but I’m going to have to try this. When we come here in a short period of time, into Milwaukee, we’re going to come and try that vegan food. I don’t know if I’m going to like it,” said Trump.

He then claimed Gray and her cafe did better when he was in office.

[...]

On edit:
After Trump says that her business was doing better under him, she does say that she was doing better under Trump. She didn't actually say that her business did better, altough given the context in which she said, it could easily be interpreted that way.

“Just recently I had a migrant come into my cafe that recently passed through the borders and paid for their food with one of the prepaid cards they were given,” said Gray. “How is that as a slap in the face as a proud American who worked hard, just like each one of you? And to be affected by the food costs, utility costs, to have someone just come and just willy nilly pay for their food, in my cafe, with prepaid dollars that was funded by us.”

But Gray, according to federal court records, has received her own prepaid food.

She has filed for bankruptcy three times in the past decade and reported receiving Food Share benefits in the most recent filing.

Gray, in an interview, acknowledged receiving the benefits, but said there is a difference: she is a U.S. citizen. “I have worked since I was 16,” said Gray, 45. “I paid into the system.”
