Our rate is falling well below the rest of the world. There's a simple test of your individual speed at this site.

(25,183 posts)All I get is the lowest speed DSL the phone company offers, because they were too damned lazy to put FIOS in my end of the neighborhood when they set it up for the rest of my condo area. It would have been easy money for them to serve folks who have enough money to pay for it where I live.
I was hoping that mesh systems would be up and running by now, without the need for physical connections. Guess I'll still have to wait.

I don't know how to interpret these numbers...
We have FIOS and it's supposed to be pretty fast.

(53,339 posts)When you get the results, you have to make another click to get the download speed comparisons, then one more click to get the upload comparisons.

(53,339 posts)My download result was higher than any other category. The upload result was beaten only by my state (CA) and Japan.

I believe that the faster speeds are possible now, they just want to keep charging more for higher speeds, so they dribble out the capacity.
edited to add - the first time I did this my download speed was 54700 or something like that, so I re-tested and the speed was higher.
also want to mention that yes, speeds are slower, but there is some hand-shaking stuff that goes on between your PC and modem that can slow things down, but I forget how to fix that. Can make a dramatic difference.

(6,907 posts)my wife is on another laptop using wireless during both, so for what thats worth. we have fiber optic through our electric company.
fwiw, 46833 down and 20414 up on the speedmatters.org page, so they seem fairly consistent

(34,112 posts)but less that 20 miles from the capitol, this is actually one of the better speeds we get here. Up 4582 Down 2063
I have no idea how this ranks but would assume it is on the lower side. Much of the rest of the state is far slower than we are here. Some much slower. I don't expect anything better for a long long time here.
